Except we've seen the BTS shots of him with La'an on-location. I would guess that the publicity shoot is from the S1 finale and what we saw being shot was from S2.
Exactly. They could all be fake. Something to throw us off the finale here

They had to enforce that Kelvin stuff. Hopefully the ship isn’t as ridiculous here in this timeline.
I was hoping he was going to say he was from Riverside, Iowa

Ok so... this one was pretty good.

I'm a bit torn, though. On the one hand it's nice to see dialogue from Balance of Terror being mirrored here, but on the other hand A) we've seen a Balance of Terror episode a few weeks back and B) it makes some of the writing feel lazy, as it's quoting verbatim the TOS episode where it's not necessary. Also if the UFP fleet is weeks away, how is the Romulan fleet so close, and why?

As for the vision of the future part, again I'm of two minds. It's a nice idea but... I guess my gripe is that now rather than facing his fate because it's the right thing to do, Pike faces it because it's of galactic importance. I thought they'd kill Kirk (who didn't need to be in this episode), which certainly would've been catastrophic for the timeline, but they didn't go that way. Not sure how I feel about those decisions.

Oh, and the guy voicing Scotty is terrible.

But warp in a TOS shuttle? No.
They have warp nacelles.

That’s true. It’s a shame they didn’t keep that tradition going.
Apparently that was a mistake in TOS. All starships were supposed to have the same badge, apparently, though personally I prefer each ship having its own insignia.

Should have had James Frain play the Romulan commander. Immersion ruined.

that was a joke
Before the screen turned on I thought they'd actually do it.

They had to enforce that Kelvin stuff.
Whatever happened before Nero got back to the past is the same as in the Prime timeline, so of course.

Paul Wesley was okay- fourth best Kirk behind Shatner, Pine, and Smith.
And Mignogna!

Amazing recast. They brought the source material up to the modern standard and allowed the new actor to bring their own thread to the role.

Talking about the TOS movie-era costume, of course. No clue what they were thinking with the Kirk thing,
