A wide-screen 4k version of the SLV is an unexpected treat. I wonder if they have cleaned it up at all.

I had better order the collectors edition. I am also intrigued to know if the deleted scenes will show anything more than the new Scotty scene.

Wow that's a far better release than what I was expecting. Really surprised to see the SLV present and in 4k nonetheless.

£60 for what is still effectively one film is steep though.

That big set for the Directors Edition is great. But I dunno if the 1983 version, another copy of the theatrical and all the extras that will probably not leave the box more than once or twice is worth the extra 70 bucks.

especially when I already have the theatrical from the release last year.

I’m ultimately glad I held out and didn’t buy the I-IV boxset. I had a feeling they’d do something like this.

The 4-movie set, stand-alone 5 and 6 (and potentially 7-10, if there's no TNG-only 4K set) and the giant TMP box will, admittedly, look ridiculous on my shelves, but that's been happening a lot lately as physical media has become more of a boutique item of collectors editions and box sets.

I’m a little turned off by fixing the scaffolding. That was part of the charm of the SLV.

Not to me. I’m a big fan of them.
It’s not like they ever force you to buy them.

I own one steelbook. Kind of a fad I just don’t get. But I don’t buy a lot of physical media these days anyway.

I enjoy steelbooks from time to time, if I manage to get my hands on one before it sells out in the pre-order phase. For this, I would rather have gone for a steelbook that has all three versions of the movie, instead of this big unwieldy thing with the book and cards and stuff.

Ok, it’s £60 for effectively one film. But dammit Jim, take my latinum!

This is exactly what I’ve been asking for - a deluxe release of all three versions of the film, including the SLV. This is just perfect and I’m so pleased Paramount are finally taking Star Trek seriously on home media.

As it’s probably the last time I ever buy this film, I will make it so.

I know you mean it as a joke but there comes a point where the human eye just won’t be able to tell the difference. If I remember correctly, 8K is just about it for damned good eyes. 4K is good enough for the rest of us.

I've preordered the Complete Adventure.

They said three more deleted scenes, Scotty being one of them. The only other unseen material I can think of that we might see, is a) the security guard getting zapped and b) Kirk about to order Scotty to go ahead and set off the self-destruct before Spock/Decker begs him to hold off; "We still have a few minutes. We can still save V'Ger and ourselves."

Much as I'd love to see a complete assembly of the Memory Wall sequence, with or without finished SFX and CGI stuntmen, I reckon that's just too much to hope for amid this otherwise utter embarrassment of riches. :adore:

Did any version have the Klingons at the end?

Nope, that was just a storyboard Probert cooked up for fun when the only ideas anyone had for how to end the movie was "not what we already wrote." Though now that I think about it, I'm surprised that in all these years no enterprising animator has tried to bring it to life.

Someone please correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t believe that ever made it into the screenplay.

    Edit: Ninja’d!
