News Star Trek: The Motion Picture Director's Cut is being restored in 4K, launching first on Paramount+

I have heard of the TV 3 hour version but I have never seen it as well
One of the biggest differences you'll take note of immediately is how different the sound design is.

- Buttons now beep and chirp
- The Enterprise bridge now has an ambient background noise with an occasional TOS' bridge sound thrown in
- The male computer voice is GONE, and where a computer voice is needed (Spock's arrival to the Enterprise), a more appropriate female voice is used.
- The Red Alert klaxon has been redone from a sound drowning alarm to a more spread out digital sounding version.
- V'Ger's evolution now sounds way more intense.

And they're likely to redo a lot of the sound design for this updated version as well. We've already received confirmation that this will be the first classic Star Trek film to receive a Dolby Atmos track so I'm really looking forward to hearing how they're going to pull that off.

The ABC-TV US premiere version of TMP was the one released on home video as the "Special Longer Version". IIRC, the only addition to the VHS was the Overture.
I saw it called that on the back of a TMP DVD. I assume it was called that as it was 3 hours, with ads on a TV channel.

Just out: a new Movie Obliette video podcast on the 4K DE… with the DE Team!

In the UK, the preorders are up for the 4K Blu ray on Zavvi. There is even a collector’s edition, which comes with the “even longer” cut in 4K.

My dreams of a Criterion-like TMP release have finally come true!

That's... very cool.

I don't buy physical media, but would have to consider making an exception in this case. Love those lobby cards and bumper stickers.

Yasss! Preordered “The Complete Adventures!” Can’t wait to see the SLV again! I know it’s not great but it’s the TMP I grew up with.

Edit: My one complaint is that the discs are stored in those obnoxious paper sleeves.

Define “full release?” The US preorder for “TMP: The Complete Adventures” is on Amazon.
