Not Syckle?
IMHO Kurtzman's role in most of modern Trek isn't that much more than Rick Berman during his era, so it's really stupid to blame anything you don't like on him.
yes, Berman was apparently very hands-on (pun intended) with some of the casting ideas, and pushing the "party line" when it came to "sensible" producing schemes (i.e. "safe") but no, he wasnt pushing some big grandiose story overview like a genuine 21st century showrunner. he was dressing up the show so it was attractive for Viacom to finance. not crafting the narrative. i see kurtzman's role as franchise showrunner to be along those lines, although he might have a bit more in the way of delusions of grandeur, but again, that's the job description, he's pulling strings and then doing PR for those decisions (which Berman did not-so-much). is he pitching ideas and setting the whole tone? he has people for that. maybe more of that than Berman, but probably not as much as people seem to be harping onI honestly don't know about Kurtman's role, but yes, you can definitely blame Berman for a lot of the bad stuff during his era. He really didn't know what he was doing. He kind of learned as time went on and was pushed in some cases. I say that as someone who enjoys much of his era. Although, notably, DS9 is my favorite and where he was much less involved.
He was always a reoccurring character.I guess we now know why Hemmer wasn't in a handful of episodes this season. Basically being reduced to a recurring character so killing him off wouldn't be as much of a shock, perhaps?
Which Trek episode features a monstrous energy materialization of someone's subconscious? (It's been a while, but that was FP, right?)Please go watch the theatrical film Forbidden Planet (1956) - and get back to me on how 'original' Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek has been over the years.
They immediately announced after the episode that he's gonna be back before any fan outrage could even get to them.feels like when they killed Culber in the first season of Disco and then the writers had to put him back in the show due to fan outrage
These were Gorn toddlers. The game probably had Gorn teens, and Arena had a seniorI feel that they overdid the monstrous nature of the Gorn in this episode. It is difficult to see them as a species that managed to achieve space travel and build a galactic empire if they were this aggressive. Furthermore, how the hell did Kirk best a Gorn in combat when it is stated in this episode that a single adult Gorn could take out several humans with little or no difficulty?
Perhaps the Gorn can spray-impregnate other Gorn as well - why not? And it would look like a pregnant Gorn to Bones. And if the babies were not quite viable yes (C-sections are usually preterm), they were not as much of a threat. The chestbursters here also weren't that dangerous yet.I know the Kelvin timeline is different but I doubt Nero can change the entire Gorn species' biology. McCoy there talks about performing a caesarian section on a Gorn and surviving handling the babies, no mention about them eating everyone and implanting eggs on him.
I'd love some sexy Gorn pornMy big fear is that they'll turn the Gorn into the Borg and we'll have a sexy Seven of Gorn join the show in season 4, but hopefully along with Uhura, this also closes La'an's arc and they won't need to fall back on the Gorn again and again until they make them boring.
It's okay to be white.I think it is more discovery season 2 vibe, however it still very discovery, both shows are beginning to merge.
Also I love how the show for all their diversity, spock and chapel who are white characters seem to be reigning as the most favoured male and female characters on the show to the point people are now willing to for go canon entirely.
in TOS Chapel says in an episode that this is the very first time she has been this close to spock and now she wants to die. those were her words, so how do we go from that to the possibility of spock and chapel having sex in SNW and giving him hugs that is crossing the lines of a man who has a fiancée.
Let's be honest spock sexual relationship with Tpring has already stretched canon. Now we are meant to believe he likely also bedded Chapel. Although some fans dont seem to care and part of it is because spock and chapel (white characters) have been written and depicted as the most alluring and sexual appealing and most intriguing characters of the show at the expense of other minority characters who from what I have seen, did not even get any romantic story arc. at least discovery in season 1 had about 3 romantic stories going on and with minorities characters.
Laan is Asian and she is gone..,for now. Ortega is latino but she is the quipper and has not done much but quip and disrespect pike, uhura may be black and iconic but boy, was she down graded on this show and not even needed. Hammer is blind and now he has been killed off.
Meanwhile Spock, Chapel, Pike and Una all feel like alpha white male and female characters untouched. I would even say even they all got upgraded a little bit much, making the show take too much of a different road to believe it ends with TOS but it does.
TOS may have been dated , racist and sexist. However this show is still aligning with the status quo that the white characters will always remain the most favoured alphas in every way.
But he's my favorite! He can't be secondary! He was always a reoccurring character.
I suspect the payoff will be something different that we got a hint at in this episode. La'an said that she'd love to kill some Gorn, or just escape with the crew surviving. I think she's moving past some of the trauma and now more focused on making a good impact, helping the crew survive and helping the girl reunite with family. I think that reunion will be the payoff for this storyline. It doesn't need a payoff. That's the whole point of episodic to look at different things and how they might occur but then leave them behind, to jaunt off to the next adventure.
Kind of criminal, ain't it? La'an ain't gone, though. She'll be back bright and early next season. Are you kidding me???
Hemmer dead?
La'an gone???
And Ortega still lives???
Wow.....just wow.
But he's my favorite! He can't be secondary!
*clutches Hemmer pillow *
we had soooo much elapsed time between Airiam's origin story and her deathI guess we now know why Hemmer wasn't in a handful of episodes this season. Basically being reduced to a recurring character so killing him off wouldn't be as much of a shock, perhaps?
I guess I'll be ok with being the only Primary Hemmer fan...So? You gotta problem with that?![]()
I still tear up. Same with Tomlinson.we had soooo much elapsed time between Airiam's origin story and her death
at this point even the least imaginative rationalizer continuity apologist has to assume that there are a shit-ton of Gorn subspecies. it is just easier this way.I know the Kelvin timeline is different but I doubt Nero can change the entire Gorn species' biology. McCoy there talks about performing a caesarian section on a Gorn and surviving handling the babies, no mention about them eating everyone and implanting eggs on him.
And Klingons, Trill, etc.at this point even the least imaginative rationalizer continuity apologist has to assume that there are a shit-ton of Gorn subspecies. it is just easier this way.
Better movie.Give Drake and Vazquez nothing but Phaser One, and LV-426 wouldn't have had a live alien left on it, even before the atmosphere processor blew.
I feel that they overdid the monstrous nature of the Gorn in this episode. It is difficult to see them as a species that managed to achieve space travel and build a galactic empire if they were this aggressive. Hemmer is telepathic. I suspect his consciousness will be visiting a crew member or two in the future. Or he's somehow cloned by an unknown alien species for their own reasons. Or a combination of the two!
Hemmer lives!
Head canon.
