I'm actually kinda mad... No.

Upset?

Eh... , "Bothered" by Hemmers death. I mean it just kind of sucks because I liked him, his relationship with Uhurah and just him in general. Him letting his hair down a bit last week was fun. I wonder if he'll "just be back" next season like what's-his-face Bajoran security officer in LD.

I hope not because that'd kinda be dumb, but... I'd like to have Hemmer back. Thank you SNW for having me care about a NuT character like this.

Yup. I paused it, zoomed in on it, and took detail little notes for my upcoming TOS/SNW era fan fiction that I will finally get around to, featuring Lt. Marseille as Chief of Security.
They’re from the official starchart book of you need more info. They’re fun to look at.

I loved Memento Mori, but not a huge fan of this episode. I'm not really into horror; also, the pacing was off at times. The two redshirts were DOA, so little suspense for me on that front. (Yes, it was also a distraction from the fact they were going to kill off a regular, but still.) Maybe if the episode had been longer, they could have made us care a little for the DOA's, and also explore the La'an/ little girl bonding a little more

I actually enjoyed the scnes in the beginning, the light banter/ bonding/ Pike and Spock cleaning up (so NOT TOS canon! Love it!), La'an etc. Speaking of "not canon," I also like how they show female friendship and mutual support, in little touches. Such a little thing, and so not common on most tv shows.

I'm a bit tired of the Spock/ Chapel/ T'Pring triangle. Although it is well-acted. Tbf, I generally dislike love triangle stories. More importantly... and it pains me to say that because Spock is still, overall, one of my favorite Trek characters, plus I actually like T'Pring/ Spock ... AND I've warmed to Ethan's version of the character... So with all that said, Spock is also probably the best explored character overall, which means that in this show, I'd like to see a bit less of him and a bit more of everyone else. Number One has been largely sidelined, and don't get me started on Ortegas! Some might say, Hey, now you know how I felt about the DSC bridge crew! But isn't Ortegas supposed to be main cast? Plus I really find her interesting and would like to get to know her better.

Was sad they killed off Hemmer, both because we hardly got to know him, and also because he's the only alien-alien of note.

All in all, it was so-so for me. I voted 6, which might be a little harsh, Contemplating a 7.

You know what would have been cool in a certain twist of fate that will have gotten fans talking. Spock should have been the one to get written out. Hammer stays. I mean as we have already said, Spock's life has already been explored. we dont need to know more about him but nope. they cant write him out. LOL.We need more Hemmer stories than Spock stories.

I too dont like love triangles either, at least in Star trek 2009 with the suppose love triangle between Spock/Uhura/Kirk it was baited because Kirk was just wasting his time from the start. Uhura had already chosen Spock likely long before she met kirk and she and spock in that timeline manage to make their relationship work and stay together for about 8 years. the love triangle in star trek 2009 was more original and the outcome unexpected as I had more money on kirk/uhura which would have been the generic option but the most obvious.

However SNW is the standard generic love triangle that plays out as such, . they even did the fake pretend love thing in episode 7 which is so common in love triangles plots, Also this love triangle in SNW will blow up by season 2. (poor nurse chapel) she has been suffering for Spock for 10 plus years.

Now with Spock/Tpring in SNW, this show makes it sound like it is spock's fault from the events in amok time that Tpring chose Stonn. Tpring in SNW also seems to be written like a Dominatrix and is quite openly obsessed with sex for a vulcan. I swear if SNW was Game of Thrones, we would have gotten sex scenes of Spock and Tpring with Spock been whooped with a cane both of them in full nude mode. Also Spock has been trying to keep up with all of Trping baggage, like him researching human mating. He seems willing to make their engagement work but now she is bored so bring in Stonn.

And Nurse Chapel, whatever she has here with Spock in SNW is now meaningless by Amok time, It is almost as if Chapel is been cheated now knowing how close she seems to be with Spock here in SNW. All we know is that she faints a little bit when spock still says tpring is his wife but in amok time and she has no more relevance to the spock/tpring drama except the soup throwing scene.

SNW Tpring in SNW comes of as a confident woman, but somehow she cannot compromise enough with spock's star fleet career. She knows Spock's father was an ambassador and he managed to make his marriage with the human Amanda work.

As I said, some of the issue is this show is they want to ''correct'' what is not necessary. This is the same thing they have pulled with Tpring. Another character who they needed to um ''updated'' but for Tpring all she wants is to mate with Spock 24/7 and does not think he needs a career. I though Vulcans are meant to have more restraint than human when it comes to the mating drive but not Tpring I guess.

Great episode. I loved the spooky factor. While the Gorn do look Alien-esque, I think part of that is simply an archetypal "predator" look. Anything hunched over with big teeth and claws is going to have at least a passing resemblance. Add a little slime or mucus and you have most nightmare creatures.

While I hate seeing Hemmer die because he was one of my favorite characters, I will say that I liked that he STAYED dead. No last minute rescues, no resurrections. When the episode started, I pretty much knew that the unknown Nurse and random Lieutenant were going to shuffle off their mortal coil. I did NOT see it coming with Hemmer.

That fan fiction I wrote back when I was 10.

I remember reading front to back the TNG and DS9 technical manuals front to back along with Mr. Scott’s Guide to the Enterprise thinking it would get me a writing job on Trek. I can’t say that reading those books did the trick.

. Spock was a different person then.

i get it and like another fan said above, the relationship with chapel has become overblown and yes is going too far away from canon. I am not against spock even having a girl friend when he was young. I mean, I think we will meet Leia Kemoni for sure and Roger Korby is on the way but for them to make Chapel this close to him, even knowing he has a half brother knowing what we know in TOS about their dynamic is what is a little cringe. Jess Bush should have just been a new character and had the romance with Spock.

And yeah, Spock is not so touchy touchy, but we can let this slide since the show has already broken canon with Spock doing a mind meld with Laan, when in TOS it was said he had never done one with a human before.

And I disagree. That's all I am saying.

Because this is the same Spock who strove harder and harder towards the Vulcan way, meaning there is a dramatic shift (one I would expect from the Cage going forward) in his character that will change that dynamic.
Spock indeed knew she was crying.

T'Pring should fade season 2 when they go Deep Space.

"I say we take off, nuke the site from orbit. It's the only way to be sure." - La'an Singh

"Game over, man! Game over!" - Sam Kirk

"They mostly come at night. Mostly." - Oriana

Damnit, I liked Hemmer. I wonder who the next chief engineer will be? Welshie?

With La'an leaving as well, I wonder who'll replace her as security chief? Prime universe Cupcake?

We must consider that we do not know T'Pring AT ALL. Not a bit. We dont know Vulcans at all. Got a feeling Princess T'Pring gonna suprise us all.
