Could it be possible that They are introducing in this episode the entity that eventually ends up killing the U.S.S. Farragut crew members?

Or maybe even an earlier version of Redjac?

Eh I doubt it, I think the Farragut event already happened, there was a memorial badge for it in a previous episode.

I hope that this episode is not *too* scary or grotesquely graphic in any way.

I wanna see red shirts bite it!

Gotta repeat; I really wish this season wasn't over next week. No more live action Trek for at least seven months!

Yeah they really need to increase the episode count. At least to 15.

Think of how creative they could be with more episodes? But I suppose less episodes per season means more money for other series, which is what all these streaming platforms want. The public to be spending $60 at least a month. Gotta recoup that lost traditional TV money.

I want to see someone be the starfleet equivalent of Hudson in Aliens.

"Oh, we're in some pretty shit now, man! That's it, man! GAME OVER!"

    "We're screwed- doomed, even!"

@gweeps Or more money per episode for this series, too.

I think you're spot on here. That being said... If I'm not mistaken, this series has been a real hit, which means Paramount can ask more for advertising, which then can increase show budgets. Perhaps if fans clamor for more episodes, they consider it.

Maybe they can do one off special edition ‘online movie events’ in between seasons? They could be showcase movie length episodes with slightly higher budgets than normal which allows for exotic location shooting and impressive guest stars who might require a slightly higher salary than a regular guest star? Like Tom Hanks. :bolian:

Well they could have at least made it look pink like in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country. But I guess that this is quite simply not Klingon blood. I don’t mind a bit of blood and gore as long as it is not gratuitous. Star Trek has shown this kind of thing before such as when…

    Icheb was murdered

ETA: Disappointing beginning to this episode, many setting the stage tropes had me rolling my eyes. I was down to rating it an 8 before it finally started to tell the real story here which had my rating back to 10 by the episode's end.

Great follow up episode, TAS: Mudd's Passion.

Oh yeah, I've got the timeline in my head all messed up.
Gotta go back and reexamine the sequence of events and their dates.

Conspiracy was worse but it was graphic in a 1980’s kind of way. It was a bit like Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark when they used a similar effect at the end. I guess it’s all down to how the production staff and episode director decides to present the ‘gore’. They can do it stylistically and in a ‘minimalistic’ way for the occasional scares and shock value with the correct lighting and atmospheric setting, or they can do it for pure gratuitous reasons which are not necessary in Star Trek as people do not watch Star Trek to see horrible things. I guess it’s ok to have something make us jump every now and again though….

Star Trek does what is necessary to the story, even horror.

Ortegas: "Sir, is this gonna be a stand up fight, or another bug hunt?"
Spock: "All we know is that we have a derelict starship, and a xenomorph may be involved."
    Ortegas: "A what?"
    Spock: "It's a bug hunt."
La'an: "All I need to know is one thing.... where they are."
    Uhura: "Kick ass, La'an!"
    La'an: "Anytime, any where."
Ortegas: "Right, right... someone said alien, she thought they meant 'illegal alien' and joined Starfleet."
    La'an:: "Fuck you, Ortegas!"
    Ortegas: "Any time, anywhere..."
Pike: "All right, you people. Listen up. I want transporter prep, weapons check, and pompadour gel ready to go by 0700."
    -Groans- Ortegas raises her hand.
    Pike: "What is it, lieutenant?"
Ortegas: "How do I get out of this chicken-shit outfit?"
Una: "Secure that shit, Ortegas! You heard the man and you know the drill! Assholes and elbows! Ortegas! Come over here.... come here..."
