The funny thing about this mess is that while watching the episode the “wokeness” went totally over my head. I still have no idea if Angel is supposed to be trans, non-binary or if all this is about something else.

Those damn liberals at Paramount better hire writer writers to hammer more in your face LGBT+ woke agenda, they totally missed me.
Best thing to do is IGNORE IT.

I think it would’ve gone right over my head if not mentioned in the marketing for this episode.
Same here. I watched the episode after I read some of this thread, so I knew going in. But I wouldn't have immediately thought she was transgendered if I didn't know.

The episode doesn't do much for me but three things stand out that I really like:

1. Captain Angel's outfit is awesome. The outfits the Confederation wore in Picard are something I'd wear in IRL, while Captain Angel's here is something I'd either want to wear on Halloween, to a few clubs I know in Boston, or to The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

2. Nurse Chapel's scene where she's like "I'm a nurse!" and then she does some moves and knocks the pirates unconscious.

3. Some people love when Pike did a pirate impression, I was amused by it too, but I agree more with Number who said, "Just stop." :p

When Spock and Chapel kissed, I figured T'Pring would think it was a ruse. That was too obvious and there's no way they'd be getting rid of T'Pring this soon.

It seems to me that by exploring the love-triangle it was hinted Spock was in during TOS but we never saw, they're bringing SNW Spock closer to Kelvin Spock. Except instead of having a relationship with Uhura, it's a mismatched relationship between Spock and T'Pring and a not-relationship between Spock and Chapel.

Other highlight (though more for later): Sybok!

Most of the episode was kind of "ehh..." but those are what I thought were the highlights. I was only short earlier with the "Saves me some typing" because I'd just finished the episode when... everything else that was going on here.

I think I'll probably go with a 6 for this one. Next week's looks like it'll be fun.

This episode was ok. I rather liked the pirate angle and Angel didn't look like no Angel to me or a counsellor. T"Pring looking up the Kinsey report to me, is silly. Why, I ask, is she so insecure that she needs a paint by numbers book to make love? I say make love not have sex. If Spock wanted that he could hire any number of escorts with a menu and choose what he liked. Some men spend their lives doing that.
T'Pring is insecure. So she goes out and figuratively buys a black negligee to 'spice up" their relationship. Is Spock bored with her and she senses it? It's not working between them. T'Pring wants control. She wants Spock permanently at her side, which is understandable, and thinks if she juices up her repertoire that will "do the trick" (Ha! ha!). She doesn't understand him.
Wondering if Spock sent Chapel a telepathic message when they touched. He has feelings for her. She doesn't judge him. She's beautiful. She has a secret little heart she reveals to few. I think now though, they need to put this to ....bed...so to speak and stop troping old Trek. We get it.
I do not reply to trolls so don't waste your time.

Wow, what is up with Jammer these days, giving incredibly low scores for SNW episodes three weeks in a row.......? I didn't really love this episode, but 1 and a half star......?
I get the impression he was thrilled with SNW at first because it wasn't DSC or PIC, and now that thrill is starting to wear off as he becomes used to the show instead of it feeling like a novelty. DS9 is his favorite Trek series and he loved BSG, so I was having a hard time picturing him as a super-fan of SNW.

I used to agree with him, most of the time, in the '90s and '00s. Now I find myself disagreeing with him most of the time. I think he got too used to coming down too hard on Star Trek and is kind of stuck there now, except for brief flashes where he can break free from it. And then there's his readership: unless it came out in 1997, "it sucks." So the fact that that's the audience he's writing to doesn't help.

On his scale, I think this feels more like two stars. Maybe two-and-a-half, if I felt generous enough.

I think jammer is echoing what fans are saying too. The last 3 episodes have not be as good as the first five and I agree. I think some cracks are

I kind of have to disagree. I dont think SNW Spock is close to the Kelvin Spock. SNW Spock is a new kind of a new Spock who we will see grow into Nimoy Spock.

I also wonder about the love triangle I think it is a little bit over cooked now but maybe this is the way the writers are trying to substitute spock with not having kirk and mccoy as his 'partners' so they have replaced tpring and chapel in kirk and mccoy places. Tpring now feels too much like a major character and yes even above uhura that many have pointed out was not even in this episode and she is suppose to be a more main character even more than tpring or chapel.

I suspect they put their strongest material at the beginning and end of the season. I think it started strong, it'll finish strong, and we're in the middle right now. But we'll see. So I don't see SNW as having gone downhill. I see it more like this is the natural flow of the season, where there are high-tides and low-tides.

After the "Gorn episode" it had a lot to equal up to. Since then it's still been good just after that episode, wow. Next week's looks pretty "average" too. The benefit is with an episodic series a "bad" or "okay" episode doesn't damage things. A bad episodes in a serialized show can damage the entire series.

Freedom of speech also means that you should not insult people for their opinion!
But when their opinion is bigoted and ignorant you should point that out; and we have. You sit here and try to claim that you laud Star Trek for giving marginalized groups representation, yet in the same paragraph you rail against a certain group that's now getting representation in Star Trek.

You're talking out of both sides here and getting called out for it.

I believe that T'Bonz may have indicated that it's time to ...

Sybok is the villainous hero we didn't ask for but the semi-good and well-intentioned antagonist we needed.

He was never really a villain in TFF. A well-intentioned man who avoided taking lives at all costs and felt genuine remorse when the Enterprise strike team attacked Paradise City and when he realized the Sha Ka Ree being had deceived him. He had no intentions of ever harming his brother, Kirk or the rest of the crew unless his hand was forced, and even then I have my doubts he'd have done so.

No real reason why she couldn't have been there. She is not official crew and did join Starfleet til later.
All of which are hoops they jumped through to shoehorn Chapel in. It would have been so much better to let this actress run with a fresh character of her own to develop, with no story constraints whatsoever. But that's just my opinion.

I don't know that I'd consider any episode we've seen yet to be a stinker. I've enjoyed all of them, and that's pretty rare for me for any show, much less a Trek show. I think they've done a good job getting this one out of spacedock- each episode has felt like Star Trek to me, regardless of the plot. That's really all I can ask, when you boil it down. It doesn't have to blow me out of my socks each week- it just needs to be fun enough to keep me coming back for more.
