That's almost exactly my take as well. Getting the Enterprise back out at the edge of known space and beyond. But then T'Pring, as usual, is there. Starfleet can rescue them if they can only get the message off. Etc.

Discovering "strange, new worlds" kind of requires going past known space!
Strictly speaking, T'Pring was on the Vulcan prison world where she was busy torturing Sybok or whatever.

The Good:
Chapel and Spock Have Feelings.
For Each Other.
She wants to be 'just a friend' but there's something about Spock she finds attractive.
Judy Bush and Ethan Peck absolutely nail this.

Captain Angel was a half decent villain, with more screentime she could have been great.
The "Tholian Web" I assume was a plant by the Sarene Squall. A nice, predictable double-crosser, what can go wrong?

The Bad:
The Orion slaver, the half-hearted comedy and the lousy security.
The Pike plot just wasn't interesting. It was funny but not enough to overcome the mediocrity.
Poor Erika still has barely any character development.

Money Shot:
"Aaargh. Yaaarrrr!"
"Sir, please stop."

Rating: 6/10

I've seen those pointed-eared green-skinned aliens in the Star Trek/Legion of Super-Heroes mini-series and wondered about them at the time.

Shockingly, language (and society) evolves over time!

Or do thee still write with the style of yore?

Doth thou, perchance, use the language of Shakespeare?

Of course, it does. By usage and consent, but not always for the better. I, for one, will never use "incent" as a verb.

We don't need your brand of 'accuracy '. We need tons of representation and to be loud and visible sonthat we are real human beings to cishet people.

This is an unreliable narrative because the majority of queer people remain in the closet to avoid being discriminated against.

Her mannerisms, hairstyle and casualwear screams Sapphic butch.

You are real human beings to cis people. Why wouldn't you be? I don't think as many people are in the closet anymore. The number in the article is probably more accurate then say ones from decades ago. I like things to be accurate as possible especially for things that are easy to make accurate. Its just the way I am. But I think its great that your getting representation.

'Tis my preference to write after the desires of mine heart.

Fireproof, oh Fireproof, wherefore art thou Fireproof

Of course, it does. By usage and consent, but not always for the better. I, for one, will never use "incent" as a verb.

I will admit that I get caught out and confused at times with the wealth of pronouns now in use, however my preference is towards the comfort (there are surely better words) of those who have historically been marginalised and I consider it simply being polite to accept one's choice of identification.

Would you, for example, take issue referring to someone born biologically female but who identifies as male and, therefore, uses he?

The original version of Sybok was far more evil than the Sybok they ended up with. He used his "Unicorn" horse as a weapon and at one point one of the adversary soldiers was impaled on the horn. Our final Sybok is driven and obsessed but clearly not all that evil.
Where was this original Sybok from?

I think you didn't quite make it to the end of that article. Clearly it is an open question. As for how I'd refer to a person born with one gender but identifying as another, I find that actual use of a person's name is the politest form of address. Here's that last sentence, btw. "Words We're Watching talks about words we are increasingly seeing in use but that have not yet met our criteria for entry."

Ha, I also give it a 6, but my 6 meant "lots of weak parts but ultimately narrowly succeeds." :bolian:

If they had been able to make one of those pirates read as a specific, unique character and not just "generic buffoon type", it really could have worked.

Or if they'd just skipped over that whole middle sequence. We didn't need it. We could have had that holding cell scene -- "Alpha Braga IV?" "Alpha Braga IV!" -- and then the next time we see them they're in command of the ship (knowing look: "Alpha Braga IV"). The interesting story was Spock, Chapel, T'Pring, and Angel, we could have used more time there, and we can just jump over the mechanics in the other plot.
Well, perhaps "flop" was too strong of a word. I can agree with your meaning. 6 is about my lowest score where I can still say there is something positive about the episode that I enjoyed, but it's largely "lots of weak parts." In this story, it was the excellent interpersonal stuff that was positive but most of the other parts actively annoyed me.

The buffoonry that succeeded all too easily actively annoyed me. If they're going to take over the Enterprise, they should be top-notch and competent. I think it made the Enterprise crew and, particularly, La'an look bad. The offscreen mutiny after a bunch of cooking didn't help. And Angel watching passively while her plan was undermined also didn't work.

I thought it was going to be more of a cat and mouse episode. If the pirates were stronger villians and earned their victory, and then Pike earned his mutiny, it would've sat better with me.

But lots of people liked this one, so I'm glad for them! :techman:
