Which makes her about two years younger than McCoy who once referred to himself in TOS as a young and talented surgeon.

So a few years younger than the actress. Around the same age Kirk was when he took command of the Enterprise. Not exactly young or "green".
Not 'green' at all, given that she was Starfleet's choice as a replacement First/Executive officer for Captain Christopher Pike and the USS Enterprise 1701 during the mission to investigate what happened to the USS Archer (and Pike's regular First/Executive officer) in SNW's Premiere episode.

Agreed. I said that on an earlier post where I asked why people keep calling her and Ortega young and inexperienced when they're not, only Uhura is. Then we started talking about skin care.

When the Gorn ships leave the black hole, somebody should have said

"Enemy vessels have Gorn Orff, captain." :D

LOVE the Gorn ships, BTW!

Im sure they'll make a ep about Korby.

M'Benga said something about how Christine is interested in "archaeological medicine". Korby is an archaeologist, isn't he?

Finally got around to watching this episode. Things IRL have been busy as fuck. That's the only way to put it.

Anyway, my brother told me this episode was like a movie and it even better than "Balance of Terror" (TOS) in terms of what it was trying to do. And you know what? I can see that. This is easily the best episode of Strange New Worlds so far. I'll go ahead and give it a 10. I think "Memento Mori" is going to be my benchmark for this series.

I'd say more, but I had to wedge watching this in before I have to head out the door. I'll say more later.

They look so young to us old folks. I keep thinking my son is just a kid and he's 38 y/o today.

Or maybe that relationship is the cause of her becoming subdued and less sure of herself.

That's my take. Roger's death and then rebirth inside an android body really devastated her and thus she stayed aboard the Enterprise where the rest of the family she knew was. The family she could still trust.

It was a deliberate callback to WALGMO.

Act like what exactly? A little flip and snarky at times? The nurse at my doctor's office does the same.

Yeah. Snarky. Flippant. Unprofessional. Neurotic. Just the thought of a nurse saying what she did about sepsis is just odd. And it's not relieving tension. It's not gallows' humour. It's just deeply inappropriate and jumps out.

You see that's a failure of characterisation then, as I thought she was green - she came across as insecure, almost disobeying commands and just the general level of comments all came across as green.

That said I like Ortega, I just hope they don't make her too silly. I think there's an issue where they perhaps have two very strong, stoic women so they feel they need to dial up the insane/humorous bar on the others. And I hope they get Hemmer on the right side of grouchy/annoying.

That said, it is just episode four... it sometimes took other Treks a season or two to work out these kinks. It's very solid so far.
