Are you joking? You think the mechanistic, stilted, shrill computer voice sounded cool, when our computers today have speech almost indistinguishable from real people's?

Please don't play obtuse. That they have better tech in one field doesn't change the fact that they have worse ones in others, and you're talking about having better sensors and a better understanding of lie detection, which has nothing to do with computer technology -- you know this.

They had better technology. Most of which we still don't have.

Now you're just doing it on purpose. The point is that SOME OF THEIR TECHNOLOGY looks dated and inferior TODAY, but not back in the 60s. The SHOW has to keep updated with the audience OF TODAY or become obsolete, and cancelled. Die-hard fans are NOT the primary source of funding for these TV shows. They need to stop acting as if THEY are the one who should be catered to.

The point was Kirk showed mercy to someone who would not have done the same. Yes McCoy and Spock consider the possibility that the Federation is in the wrong but the Gorn are presented as monsters
Riiiiight. Just like the TOS Klingons who could never be anything but foes. But whatever.

The reasoning given is stupid if all of this is one continuity and Prime as the producers keep telling us. TOS isn't going anywhere.
I'd actually love it if they revisited TOS. Give it a modern update like we're seeing in SNW. I'm a huge fan of TOS, but I've got those blu rays and can watch them anytime I want--original SFx of course!

I don't want them to revisit TOS. I think they should just jump ahead to right after the Motion Picture and go from there. There's a 13 year timeframe between TMP and WOK for the new show to explore.

And with the original VFX, you're used to the 1701 exterior looking different from shot to shot... ;)

They actually referred to them as data tapes and the idea is that there were little spools of magnetic tape in them!
That's not actually that far fetched. Current solid state drive and flash storage technology don't last forever and have limited read-write cycles available before becoming unusable. If Kirk's magnetic tape is better than that, it is indeed actually more advanced.

That would be cool too!

Some things can be updated. Look at the mirror episode in STE. They updates the graphics, all the screens and functionality of the bridge console screens. This blinking lights are actually screen savers of sorts. You're telling me that the bridge itself looks obsolete to you? It looked cool on STE. Not saying I don't like the look of the SNW bridge but they could have brought it closer to SNW.

As someone who has used and had to repair audio cassettes, I doubt it! But also moving parts vs. solid state. Solid state wins. Magnetic tape also demagnetizes over time as well. There could well be improvements, but solid state is likely to win out.

But, sure, I can roll with micro tapes in there. I just don't think that's the real future.

I mean, I think the assumption is these aren't "our" microtapes...
