They really don't seem to like anything from TOS set design.
The ENTIRE design of this series is heavily based on TOS; moreso than any other series since the 70s. If they don't like it they have a funny way of showing it.

Of COURSE it's not an exact reproduction of the TOS sets. That'd be silly. Only die-hard fans could possibly care about this. Let's move on.

I'm just extrapolating where they are possibly headed. They really don't seem to like anything from TOS set design. Even the officers quarters are much larger than on TOS. It goes against what Scotty said in TNG about ship quarters during the TOS era. I like SNW but I not fooling myself that TOS as is is part of the main visual continuity timeline now. Yeah we will see something with Kirk as captain one day.

Ah, but just think how big the reimagined Enterprise-D in this continuity will be...

Seems like you missed the whole point of Arena! Both the Enterprise and the Gorn were ready to destroy the other without finding out why. It wasn't until the Metrons intervened and Kirk found the reason that communication started.
The point was Kirk showed mercy to someone who would not have done the same. Yes McCoy and Spock consider the possibility that the Federation is in the wrong but the Gorn are presented as monsters

To be fair we saw a Klingon/Trill wedding on DS9 in the 24th century too. Doesn't change the fact that a century earlier the Klingon Empire and the Federation were mortal enemies.:nyah::whistle:;)
my point exactly: the Gorn appearance on LDS proves nothing about their 24th century relations with the federation.

I guess I need to re-watch this one. It didn't grab me like it did everyone else. I just felt like we've seen this one before (a couple of times) and there is no real tension when you know everyone is going to survive.
Never watch a Titantic movie

But if peace was not eventually achieved, why is there later a baseball team on Cestus III? Now that can either be peace achieved through understanding and forgiveness, or via the Federation decimating them in war. I hope it's the former.

Or the Metrons used them as food bags or breeding sacks...

Especially the animated ones ;)

Or, and don't watch WW2 films either. Real downers.
That's certainly true of the German ones like Das Boot and Stalingrad. They were still excellent films, though.

A Bridge Too Far
and Patton rocked! Bridge on the River Kwai (despite its many historical flaws), Where Eagles Dare, and a number of other 60's and 70's era WWII films were also exceptionally good.

Come to think of it, there aren't many that I can think of that weren't. Although I was never a fan of The Longest Film...er...Longest Day. And I think that bit about the Airborne identifying clickers sounding like K-98 bolt actions cycling was a bit overblown. I know many reenactor owners of both of those particular items (original WW II equipment from both sides) and they literally sound nothing alike.

I dont know. I'd have to subscribe to the Gorn+ channel to see what their version of the episode is like, but I suspect the Gorn shows mercy as well.

After all these decades, it was great to FINALLY see the Enterprise take on a black hole :)

Ron Howard did say that at a preview screening one of the audience card notes they got back said: "Liked the film except for the typical Hollywood ending. In real life none of those astronauts would have survived."
Yeah I heard that too. I hope it's apocryphal. Otherwise it's really disappointing. The movie makes no effort to hide its historical nature.

C-in-C: Well, there are Gorn who feel the same way about the peace treaty as yourself and Admiral Cartwright. But they'll think twice about attacking under your command.

Spock: I have personally vouched for you in this matter, La'an.

La'an: You ...have personally ...vouched?

C-in-C: You will extend the Gorn hegemon full diplomatic courtesy, Ms. Noonien-Singh.

La'an: But a full Ambassador would be better equipped...

C-in-C: If there's no further business ...I wish you and your crew Godspeed. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. ...I remind you this meeting is classified.

Cartwright: I don't know whether to congratulate you or not, La'an.

M'Benga: I wouldn't!

La'an: We volunteered?

Spock: There's an old Vulcan proverb. 'Only Nixon could go to China.'

La’an can become the Federation Ambassador to both the Gorn and the Metron’s if she succeeds in her mission. La’an is from the 23rd century though so I doubt that she would succeed in her mission. Successful Gorn interactions and Metron diplomatic missions probably won’t start until at least the 25th century.
