When I saw S4E1 of Discovery I remember thinking Jesus can you let these people take a breath before the next tragedy/horror, thinking that they should have started with a regular contact adventure (like a fleshed out version of the opening business) and then lead us into the bigger badness - kind of like Buffy the Vampire Slayer. But I still enjoyed it. I love all the Star Trek flavors.
I also thought maybe they weren't going that route because they had this new Pike Trek in the works..
I think about Star Trek a lot more since 2017.

I’ve found in the last couple of years that I’ve come to like and appreciate Star Trek more and more overall. Even stuff I once thought was mediocre or “meh” I am finding a renewed joy in.

When I finally finished Voyager, I concluded it was as bad as I thought it would be, Still warmed over TNG, but not horrible.

One nice touch to TOS I noticed in this episode was the sound the engines made on the bridge when the ship was accelerating was a subdued version of the TOS sound.

This is actually one thing I really don't like about modern Trek, SNW included – that apparently every captain needs to have their own catchphrase for going to warp :barf:

The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Pike said, “Hit it.” Pike had always said “Hit it.”

Having just rewatched the episode, I conclude that the music scene on the comet might be one of the most lovely scenes Star Trek has ever produced. The music, the visuals, the acting by Gooding, and the writing all lock together into something quite magical.

I’ve been thinking that since 1987.

Only part I thought was poorly done was the sudden appearance of the ship. They should have detected a warp signature, or a decloaking. So much for those upgraded sensors they were touting last week.

Little JL hard at work at Starfleet Academy, stealing catch phrases. Probably stole "Make it so" as well.
