My favorite line: Shepherd quoting Azetbur from The Undiscovered Country.

That door is forbidden to all except loyal Federation citizens...Huh. Didn't notice that before. I guess the blinds are closed?
I want to know what's behind this door...

I wonder what the range of the Telepathic Communication between Spock & Hemmer extends to?
Can Spock & Hemmer use Telepathy to communicate when one is on the Bridge, and the other is in Engineering?
Even in a crisis where regular comms are down?
Or does Spock need line of sight with Hemmer for his Telepathy to work?
thanks. Since you provided explanation I’ll post an example I’ve always loved!
This piece sounds unpleasant (or at least REALLY “wrong”) to our hears, but it would have been pleasant to someone living in Europe in the late 1500s.
Notice how different the keyboard is, also, with separated flat and sharps: in fact one of the reasons we got to today’s systems (note the plural) is to make playing music easier by compromising on intonation.
I’ll also add that major third intervals were not considered consonant, pleasant, or in fact used at all (in favour of fourths) until we got to the beginning of our current harmonic system.
I still remember on VOY episode "Random Thoughts" when Tuvok was able to telepathically communicate with the Alien Species of the week and he mentions that Vulcans can do basic Telepathic communication (Speaking via Telepathy instead of using their mouth to create words using sound), but he generally doesn't for polite-ness sakes when in company of non-telepaths.I suspect the telepathy was mostly on Hemmer, since Vulcans are primarily "touch" telepaths. All Spock had to do was open a window in his mind so that Hemmer could sense when Spock was throwing the object.
About pike, anyone thinking that his desire to survive his future condition might lead to Spock developing the Talos IV plan? Also: we know that he ends there, but we don’t know that he stays there forever…Just saying!
I would not recommend watching Marvel films then either. As long as they don't stop in the middle of a mission or battle so they can give a speech or talk about their feelings I should be good.
^ I'd agree with those. And I'd add that it appears like they have the beginning and ends figured out, but it looks like they just wing the middle.
Kirk, after the death of his brother, his sister-in-law and knowing that now his niece is an orphan.
Thank you!!!Small correction, it was the death of Kirk’s brother, sister-in-law, and two nephews, with one nephew, Peter, left an orphan.
It was a bloodbath. Those flying murder pancakes left almost no survivors.
I remember watching Voyager, and every time the ship took damage huge piles of what looked like charcoal fell all over the place. Made me wonder, what is this ship made of? Is this the USS Kingsford?I'm just glad the bridge seems much more reasonably sized and utilitarian than the comparatively cavernous and largely empty bridge on Discovery. As long as they don't do those Wizard of Oz flame effects when there's damage to the ship, I'll consider it a huge win.
Oi.
The show was about about smart female lawyers who would sue misogynist men for being misogynists.
Sound is nothing but vibrations of matter. Doesn't matter if it's through air, or water, or expanding plasma. While space has a very low matter density, making the general statement true, some situations will transmit sound. Again, it's not a mantra.Sure, if debris hits you in the head, you're gonna sense it. But it won't be sound![]()
As someone mentioned earlier, I already like all the characters. I mean, it took 2 seasons for the characters of TNG to be fully fleshed out and likeable, and I'm still very iffy about some DSC characters. It's quite a feat that, like TOS and DS9, I'm immediately drawn to these ones.9/10. I loved this episode. It was amazing to learn more about Uhura's background, and I found the central conflict interesting. The beginning scenes with Anson Mount and the crew were great as well. This crew gels well together.
Like Enterprise S4. That model was probably the best balance of format. It seems to me they could help themselves by having two or maybe three stories in a season. That way they could tighten up those lagging middles parts somewhat, plus increase the chance that one of them could be exceptional.
Maybe that's how Kirk copes, you know? Maybe he's a wreck inside, but uses humour and levity to get through it, on top of wanting to show the crew that everything'll be alright.Look, I understand why people don't want to see their favorite characters moping all the time, but I'm not sure that depicting them insensible and slightly inhuman is the best alternative...
My personal canon now is that he suffers from severe PTSD and he is unable to process grieving correctly. But he doesn't realize that he can be inappropriate and disrespectful. And because he is the captain, no one has the courage to say: "Dude, the bodies of our mates are still floating out there because our computer went mad and destroyed their ships. Can you wait until the funerals before cracking jokes, thank you?"Maybe that's how Kirk copes, you know? Maybe he's a wreck inside, but uses humour and levity to get through it, on top of wanting to show the crew that everything'll be alright.
Kirk, after the loss of several ships and the death of hundreds of crewmen caused by the Enterprise's computer (The Ultimate Computer)
Kirk, after the losing of Memory Alpha and all the people living there (The Lights of Zetar)
Kirk, following the violent deaths of several women at the hands of a serial killer (Wolf In The Fold)
Kirk, after the death of his brother, (EDIT Thank you @JoaquinSlowly), his sister-in-law and two nephews, with one nephew, Peter, left an orphan.
