Spoilers So, what do we think of Season 2 now that it's done?

If you had told me after episode 1 I'd hold Discovery S4 in higher regard by the finale, I'd have suggested you were madder then Mad Jack McMad. But, here we are.

The story doesn't make a lick of sense when held under any scrutiny. It got off to an incredibly strong start before collapsing into a boring, meandering, incoherent mess.

By virtue of the fact every other season of Trek has had more decent/watchable episodes than Picard S2, I am left with no option but to scornfully rate this as the worst season of Trek.

Congratulations TNG season 1 for moving up a peg after 35 years.

I think that Season 2 is automatically better because it has the Borg Queen singing Pat Benetar.

You can criticize it but you would be a Bajoran hating Cardassian.

I didn't mind that scene. Always up for some Pat Benetar.

Nonetheless, I remain a critic.

Well. I didn't go to bed angry after the finale, which is what I'd been anticipating. I actually had quite a lot of fun with it, outside of how Rios was taken off the board. *Loved* the goodbye to Q. Outright laughed at Seven taking over Rios' ship again. So I thought it mostly landed well. But the idea of ever watching the season again just makes me tired. I feel like there was a decent outline that was half filled by writers who'd been paying close attention to the characters, half by writers playing Sci-Fi Mad Libs, and the actors just doing their best with it. And I just don't wanna pick through the soggy parts again to get to the bits that work. So some good ideas with execution deeply enough flawed to fatally trip it all up.

I'll miss John de Lancie.

S2E10 was okay-ish. A bit soppy.

But can't wait for S3 when more of the TNG crew return. I like ST: Picard way more than Discovery but somewhat less than Lower Decks (even though I'm not the biggest fan of animation).

Strange New Worlds looks promising too.

I was generally entertained week to week, but in the end i found the season to be a mess. Similar to how I felt after Discovery season 2 (which also dealt with a time travel paradox).

Disappointed they basically wrote out the Soji character and also disappointed that Rios isn't returning.

First 3 episodes were great then it was just downhill from there. 4, 6, and 7 were not good at all for me.

I also think I enjoyed Discovery season 4 quite a bit more than this.

I admit, DISCO season 4 was a much bigger disappointment to me because I watched that show for Tilly and Saru.

I don't hate Michael but I much preferred her as a rule breaker who hated authority.

That didn't work when the authority is the democratically elected President.

The darker Nu Trek shows have not really been to my taste, but this one was the first that I finished, watching start to end. And I really did enjoy a lot of it. The ending was particularly nicely handled, with Rios finding his place and Elnor returning.

Though I would have been fine with it ending here, I am nonetheless very interested in what S3 has in store.

So one of my Trekkie Friends, who's a big TNGer, didn't get through Season 1, but is making it to the end of Season 2 even though she still has issues with it.

So it seems, from everything I'm gathering, those of us who loved S1 and those of you who hated S1 are coming together in the middle for S2.

So I'd say Season 2 is less polarizing than Season 1.

Like I said before: you might not like what Discovery focuses on, but at least it knows where its focus is. Picard Season 2, on the other hand...

And you might not like DSC Season 4's pacing, especially in the second half, but at least we knew where they were going with it.

3/10.

No exaggeration; it was one of the worst Star Trek seasons I’ve watched. It was an over-complicated, convoluted season that led to nothing. Unbelievably sloppy and lazy writing plagued the ridiculous amount of plots lines that were being juggled. I don’t think I’ve come away from a season of Trek more angry and frustrated than I have this one.

Sorry you didn't like it.

I don't like S2 as much as the more liberating and novel feeling S1, with a hideously padded Act 2 nearly tanking the whole season, and 2020s Los Angeles just not really doing it for me in comparison to 1980s San Francisco. And S2 overall feeling mid budget next to the movie quality with S4 of DSCO and S1 of SNW.

But the last few episodes and my investment in the brilliant ensemble cast made it watchable.

7/10 (with Season One being 8/10).

The lazy/sloppy storytelling was extremely frustrating. The time travel aspects were even more confusing, especially when you had the producers going on twitter and saying it's a separate timeline, but then it turns out its the original timeline the very end of the show. All the decent characters that they had in season 1 were turned into caricatures of themselves this season.

I loved it. I thought the first few episodes were great, it did drag a bit in the middle of the season (though the actors kept giving memorable performances), I enjoyed the conclusion and am excited for the final season.

Yeah, but at least it's Star Trek and it's streaming for us to see; there's no need to expect more than what we get from the talent hired. Were you at least entertained even if the plots for those serials were confusing and making the decent characters as caricatures?

I thought it was okay. Probably would give it a 6.5/7. I thought it started off great, maybe should have expanded episode 2 in the Confederation to cover 2 episodes. Overall thought LA fell flat for the most part. The story muddled through and was a little disjointed. The acting was really the highlight of the season. John de Lance was great, same with Alison Pill, Annie Wersching was brilliant, quite a few highlights there. The way the season began, it could have been better. And I don't like how these Kurtzman shows have these galactic shattering events that materialize so suddenly storyline wise. The Borg needing the Federation fleet to combine shields together to prevent the sector from being...blown to hell basically?

Also, personally I hate how the Borg have been neutered over time. You go back to Best of Both world's, and how Q talked them up initially in Q Who, these are galactic villians that getting wiped out by the Confederation didn't match up to me. I am guessing nanites beat them which just don't like up with where I saw the Borg. The neutering began with Voyager but continued here. So Borg as Federation friends, I could see it as perhaps a faction. There should be another Queen still alive other than the Jurati Queen right? Not sure I believe they're all now a benevolent force. We'll see.

First two episodes were epic. The third episode was good, but didn't match up with the awesomeness of the first two. The fourth episode was the worst episode of Star Trek produced in the modern era. A few of those middle episodes that followed were bloated and useless. The last 3 episodes were really good, and I enjoyed the finale quite a bit.

So, ultimately, it wasn't too different than S1, except I think the S2 ending was a bit better. I was disappointed that they spent the bulk of the season on Earth of the past. Those are never my favorite kind of Star Trek stories. I really never liked Guinan as a character, and somehow nuGuinan was even worse. The actress who plays all the multiple characters (Soji, Kori, whatever else) is my least-favorite on the show, so it was a bit frustrating to roll my eyes through all her scenes. Seven and Raffi may be the worst, most unnatural feeling, lacking-in-chemistry relationship in all of Star Trek........which is saying A LOT.

I loved Seven of Nine as a character this season. I thought Picard's journey and associated revelations were excellent and very well-handled. Even though it was inconsequential more often than not, I liked Rios's arc this season. I enjoyed the arc around Renee Picard and the Supervisor protecting her (and I really liked that this was a creative way to get Orla Brady more involved in the show). John DeLancie nailed it and was brilliant in every scene he was in. I loved the return of WC as The Traveler.

Overall, I put it a small step below S1, which had a better middle act and not quite as good of an ending. I also enjoyed it more than S4 of DSC. So, I thought it was "pretty good" but not "great" overall.

I will likely re-watch this fall/winter, like I did with S1 of PIC.

I honestly don't know how I feel about Season 2. I don't think it's great. But . . . I don't know. At least I don't feel as hostile toward it as I did toward the Season 1 finale. Perhaps it's just as well that the third season will be its final one.
