Our conflict also started with a fight for freedoms. We called it the Second Civil War, then the Eugenics War, and finally just World War III. This was our last day.

Actually, that seems quite clear. It was one continuous, building conflict, in that order.

(Consider: “Our 20th-century conflict also started with a fight for land and ideology. We called it World War II, then World War I, and finally just the Vietnam War.” That would be nonsensical.)

I was underwhelmed. IMO, this season was bad.

I was very pleased with that ending.

I’m actually surprised to see myself saying that, but really…I liked that ending a lot.

And anyone who wasn’t moved by Picard and Q’s goodbye, you’re dead inside.

The season began with a 10 and ended with a 7 or 8. Not bad. I just wish so many in-between had been a lot better.

So many great story threads in this episode. Why cram them all in one episode and instead spend so much screen time about Picard running around the cellars of Chateau Picard?

I think a seven is fair. I had a lot of fun with this episode in and of itself (though somewhat dimmed now with news of more cast departures), but there were also a few "come on now...!" moments, and as a round off to the season, it could have been stronger.

It looks like they ran out of time and had to staple some Zoom conference video of Alison onto a stunt double.

Still bothers me we don't know exactly what happened with Q and his whole race, only that something happened to him.

I think the character was mostly used as a plot device which is a shame. Then again, many of them were.

    7 is perfect.

Q is always a plot device. His race makes no sense, he is laughably irritating and not in a good way, and he is always trying to teach Picard and Co. a lesson. Something happened to him. Maybe @Greg Cox can right a story.

I thought this was a brilliant finale. This season wasn’t as gripping as S1, but this particular episode may be the best season finale of all modern Treks. It was wonderful and touching and had some real nice surprises throughout.
I’ll say more tomorrow…but this gets a RARE 10/10 from me. I loved it.

Penance? Absolution? Oh, now I get it. Q had such a soft spot for Jean Luc.

History is unbroken. The future is restored. And Jurati is the new Borg CEO.

Not a bad finale for a mostly mediocre season.

Hm. Adam Soong is pretty old. Does he have a secret family? Or am I coming up with a new theory that all Soongs are clones of Adam? It would explain why they all suck so bad. I'm thinking a new Soong clone releases from the cloning facility whenever the previous Soong dies. And they all really love their own face, so of course they clone themselves. Even Noonien loved his own face so much he gave it to at least three of his androids.

Did they change the Ready Room? When I watched it this morning, it mostly had interviews from last week in it, and not what you mention.

Do candle ghosts shoot ectoplasma torpedoes?

Starting with a somatic cell is from scratch

Since the Q have sex with their fingertips, and Q here held Picard's head with his fingertips, did he.... :D

If they're not assimilated, Kirk and Soran don't go to the Nexus, the D isn't destroyed, and there is no E to stop the Borg in FC. It has to happen to save the present ;)

They get a choice: spaced or walled.

He probably looked up where the worst attacks happened and knew exactly where not to be during the war.

I was thinking about this earlier today: just because Rios is off the show doesn't mean "Rios" is off the show. We've got like five holographic versions of him. ;)

Another thing: While I understand where he's coming from, if I personally had a choice between living in the 21st Century or living in the 25th, I'm sorry but I'd go with the 25th. :p

    Neither ...

I can't see her spacing anyone (She has firsthand experience -- Chakotay tried throwing her out an airlock in "Scorpion, Part II")

I have to say that I REALLY enjoyed this episode.

I found that Picard's character arc made a lot of sense. I loved the idea that Picard has been driven to explore out there and help others, but still needed to learn to accept himself.

I know that there is another season, but based upon the character arcs for most of the regulars, if the series had ended here, I would have also been satisfied. Most of the characters started in a somewhat broken place and found themselves more whole and in a better place by the end of the season. The ending definitely had some "All Good Things" vibes happening.

Ultimately, Q's "death" wasn't explored, but I'm also not sure it needed to be. The more interesting aspect is that Q used his time to help Picard (his favorite pet?!?) grow as a person. This is thematically similar to many of Q's encounters with Picard, but also softens Q and makes him less of an antagonist in his final moments. He himself is ultimately rewarded with the embrace of a friend rather than ending his existence with indifference or scorn. For those that want to know the details of why Q is dying and how he may perhaps escape that fate, I'm sure someone will eventually write that novel.
