more recently we’ve had a torpedo-proof door…

yep.

don’t forget people deevolving (?) into random “lesser” animals or going back to being children. Not sure it was braga, but the science there was basically nonexistent.

in TFF they were behind a ridge and Spock adjusted the yield. Narrow beam versus wide beam.

you’re talking about later in the film: earlier the enterprise fires torpedoes at “god” and Spock is on the surface.

i was talking about near the end when the General has commandeered the BOP.
I remember Spocking swinging round in the gunnery chair.

The Major Gin video, though I'm not a big fan of them, sort of just "confitms" my thoughts on the tension between Picard and Robert, it was because of Picard's defiance of the family traditions and him being able to break riles without consequences. I doubt that means Jean-Luc's actions led to their mother killing herself.

It doesn't work for me, it feels forced, and teally it's a stretch that this bug was in Picard's mind for the last 90 years and never impacted him.

It's just a dumb thingvthey threw in there fir pseudo/manufactured drama and I disregard it. It doesn't fit wirh how I see Picard and the relationship with his brother and family. In "Tapestry" a vision of his father admonishes Picard for going off too join Starfleet and dying before his time, trying to be the intrepid explorer; not running from the memory if his mother's death.

Picard's mother lived to a nice old age (though possibly still died "young" for the time, but his father did too) and never hung herself in the observatory because she suffered from a mental illness she refused help on and no one could give her help for.

My head canon, my choice.

I must admit, I find myself growing weary of the late season stand off between the crew and a larger force which seems impossible to defeat. This goes for Disc too. I feel like I've seen this standoff too many times now.

How do you feel about the revelation Lxanana Troi was secretly carrying a horrific pain from a dead child?

Part of why I like these revelations is that in addition to "humanizing" our protagonists, they are rarely the ONLY thing guiding them. Picard's mother committing suicide had an effect on him certainly and undoubtedly severely impacted his relationship with his father.

However, it's just one chapter in a very long life made a lot of events that impacted him. Picard was shaped by getting stabbed in the heart, the Stargazer, the Borg, and lots of things we know about. We're always finding out new things about Jean Luc because he's someone who has led a life of many such events.
