Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

There's always seems to be three opinions in any discussion about the SNW Enterprise's exterior:
  • It looks good, the ship needed to be updated, visual continuity is overrated.
  • If this is supposed to be the same ship design from TOS then they've made several obvious errors!
  • It looks exactly like the Enterprise to me?
Personally I'm in group 2, but I think group 3 is probably having the most fun.
I'm in group 4: another variation on the stories told about this ship.

When I first started using Computers (a Teletype connected to a mainframe):

In the first Star Trek simulation I played (Called 'STTR1'):

The Enterprise was depicted as:

E

And a Klingon D7:

K
:eek::rommie:
And they're probably still battling it out to this day, unless you find a way to enter the grid - as The User - and make peace. ;)

The TOS Enterprise never looks out of place

Agreed for the most part but even ENT added detail and texturing to the TOS Defiant to bring some displays and sets up to HD television standards. I'm as big a cheerleader of the TOS ship as anyone on this board but a simple transfer from 1969 or even the Remastered episodes to 2022 just wouldn't work. At bare minimum we need an "In A Mirror Darkly"-level upgrade.

That's a nice sentiment, but it would stand out against the new interiors, updated effects and prosthetics, etc.

At minimum, the original would have to be modernised and detailed. It can't just be replicated like they did in the Remastered set.
I honestly disagree with that assessment.

You won't find a bigger fan of the TOS Enterprise design but yeah, at absolute minimum you'd have to pull an ENT Defiant and then some. The ship in those two episodes is nothing short of stunning and shows that it could be done.

I think that's not even enough, though. The Enterprise in that episode, filmed 17 years ago, was set against uniforms and production values that aimed to replicate the 60s look. This isn't what SNW is doing. They'd have to take it quite a bit further.

One cannot disagree with facts. It makes no sense that the simplistic, obvious-model look of the original would work in a modern series with modern production values.
It worked just fine for 2004 and ENT's "In A Mirror Darkly", and in all honesty, overall the Disco-Prize design overall isn't all that different from th 1966 design, aside from the Nacelle struts.

It does especially with more varied backgrounds.

I mean, maybe? I'll be curious, given a still of Uhura, I wonder if they will try any way.

And texturing. And some details here and there.

Ok so I got an email back from Crave and they only have the French version for some stupid reason. Now, of course I speak French, but I want the original version!
Sounds like Canada is, in fact, screwed.

Support doesn't know what they're talking about, Crave will have both.
None of the statements from CBS has said crave is only getting the French version.

In my opinion, it didn't.

When people say that the original Enterprise looks horrifically dated and out of place next to modern Trek ships it really makes me realise that we might all be fans of the same story, but we're not always on the same page.
