Good.
I don't need greatness in my Trek. Just good enough.

Star Trek only reached "great" a few times in its history, now hitting 55 years, 56 in September. These writers just don't have greatness in them... and what WOULD make this a great Star Trek show? Picard style moralizing, Discovery style melodrama, or TOS style completely unconnected adventures of the week?
I don't know if ANY of those formulas could produce a truly great show, and if they could I am not sure these writers are what's needed to pull it off.
Greatness is just good enough.Good.

No... *extremely confused look*Greatness is just good enough.
Maybe.Star Trek only reached "great" a few times in its history, now hitting 55 years, 56 in September.
If they can do that I will be impressed. To me, unconnected adventures. Tell good stories, some with morals and some not. Have some humor to show that these people can face danger and death and really be that damned good. Have faults, but overcome them in the moment to face down a threat and have presence of mind to do that first and not be selfish to think of themselves first.
Good.
I don't need greatness in my Trek. Just good enough.
Read in to it what you will."Good enough?"
That can be read as not really putting up a best effort, or trying to do something fresh, and living up to its potential. The ST franchise has suffered through enough of that over the past 25 or so years.
The franchise has never achieved greatness. I think we're in love with the concept, not the execution."Good enough?"

Not even DS9?There have been consistently great TV shows over the decades, but none labeled "Star Trek."
Amen. There have been consistently great TV shows over the decades, but none labeled "Star Trek."
I'm so glad that I've no time to waste on Yapping YouTube critics.
Exactly, and I will not hold any new show up to the exceptions as a standard.I mean I love Trek and it provides me great enjoyment, but relative to what was produced at the same time, Trek was never the best Dramatic work for individual seasons. They have had a handful of very good Trek seasons with some of those seasons being some of the best of that year, but still not the best. And those are by far the exceptions not the rule.
Nope.Not even DS9?
Indeed. The franchise has never achieved greatness. I think we're in love with the concept, not the execution.
It's all colors to a tapestry. A minor annoyance when the color orange comes up, rather than a crime against whatever standard is used. The very best ten or so hours of Star Trek remain my favorite TV of all time. Those are the ones that I vividly remember the excitement and the feelings of seeing for the first time. And those are the reasons I'm a fan of the show.
That so much of it is not good is irritating, nothing more.
When people talk about the quality of modern Trek, I always try to make two points. 1 modern Trek has produced no where near the amount (percentage wise) of bad Trek versus TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY or ENT, and none of modern Trek even my most disliked episode rates as the worst Trek has ever made. But modern Trek also hasn't produced those rare Great episodes of Trek that each of the previous series have managed to various degrees (a couple have come close, but not quite there). The very best ten or so hours of Star Trek remain my favorite TV of all time. Those are the ones that I vividly remember the excitement and the feelings of seeing for the first time. And those are the reasons I'm a fan of the show.
