The IMDB profiles of the two writers for this episode:
These do not look like profiles of experienced writers.
One writer previously worked on an IMDb TV original action crime comedy-drama,
before that he did not work as a writer for 18 years.
The other writer wrote two short movies.
At least you can say they didn't work on "Desperate Housewives" or "My Little Pony" (two writes of previous Picard episodes did), or that they have a least some writing experience (for one writer, writing for Picard was his first writing job).

Star Trek has always been a talent pool of established and new names. Trek from
2016 onwards has been no different. Give new talent a chance, instead of always looking for ‘proof things will fail’….
I love the idea that working on Desperate Housewives and My Little Pony, two extremely successful properties that were largely critically well regarded, is a bad thing, or an indicator of what their work on Star Trek would be like.
George Miller made every Mad Max movie, and he also made the climate-change warning animated children’s films of the Happy Feet series. Writers are capable of creating works with vastly different tones and styles, as exemplified by every episode of Picard to date bearing little to no resemblance to those of My Little Pony, aside from their John de Lancie characters.

I also love the angle of "omg these writers wrote for those television shows"... heaven forbid television writers actually write for television shows

Something like "Only Genre Writers for Genre shows." I think that covers it.
He must have some power left. He got into an FBI facility, albeit a field office, to see Guinan. He integrated himself into Soong's VR environment and created or procured a cure for Kore.
Yeah. He was also able to pose as Renee's therapist a la his schtick from TNG's 'All Good Things..."

A quick Google search shows that Matthew Okumura worked for a decade following the Smallville credit as the VP of development for Millar Gough Ink, the creators/EPs of Smallville’s production company, and then worked producing The Shannara Chronicles, as a writers assistant on The Kingkiller Chronicles, and both those jobs on Into the Badlands, before working in the writers room on Leverage: Redemption as the story editor.
He was working in the industry the entire time, and it’s not that odd or notable, it’s commonplace for folks to go back and forth in BTS roles Hollywood.
