I suppose Matt Jefferies had no clue either. And yet future designs improved on those weaknesses somewhat.

His ideas were good for the 60s, but it’s not the 60s anymore.I suppose Matt Jefferies had no clue either.
And of course you know trek ships better than Doug, right, a nobody with no connection to trek whatsoever... XD
You don't get to mine TOS. And mining TOS is what they want to do. Some day they will mine TNG. Probably sooner than later.
And when Kirk assumes command of the Enterprise and the story continues onscreen for however long, it will be this very ship.
Norman would disagree with you. Remember that Android was actually assigned to the Enterprise before he took it over and they went to the planet Mudd.![]()
this is absolutely false. Having just watched TMP it looks dated as hell. Maybe not to the extent of TOS but still. TNG is getting there too. VERY 80’s.
None of the current shows look like an apple storeI mean...Lower Decks and Picard. Lower Decks is also mining everything else and Prodigy is mining Voyager...
Citation needed.
Impersonating a Starfleet officer does not mean one is "in Starfleet". Or do you think Norman graduated the academy?
To me TNG looks more futuristic than the modern shows that think everything will look like an Apple store...
I know who Doug is., I’ve been following him online for over a decade now, all the way back to the original DrexFiles blog. But sometimes he’s got his head stuck in the past. He’s gotten better about it, he no longer dislikes bridge windows.Doug is from the 60s? We learn more and more here every day
What exactly makes the concept of futuristic materials valid for the 60s, but not for the 2020s?
I suppose it makes sense for you that a 60s design has futuristic materials, but a 2020s design should not be futuristic in your mind...?
This is the guy who you say has no idea:

The TMP refit's pylons have about the same length connection where they meet the secondary hull and they're plenty flimsy (I had to screw my model kit together with actual screws to keep the bloody things from falling off). And the Enterprise D has very thin pylons by comparison. If the TOS Connie’s materials were supposed to allow for thinner parts, why do most later ship designs ignore that and go for sturdier looking parts? The TMP refit swapped out the pylons for more sturdier looking ones (which by the way originally came from an alternate concept for the TOS Enterprise if Gene didn’t like what we got). Clearly they weren’t that great.
And yet future designs improved on those weaknesses somewhat.

Speaking of visually continuity, I'd love to see both DSC-era ships and TOS-era ships in the show. FASA's Anton class is kinda like a TOSsified Malachwoski.
But they're the best ones

Nah. They're pretty lame.
And previous someones did not. It's never one size fits all.Personal feelings of lameness aside, they still used the same design as the Tenth Planet. Clearly someone didn’t think they were so outdated that they wouldn’t work on screen.
Maybe it's just me, but I've thought Doctor Who always looked cheap and dated as hell. I've tried multiple times to get into the "modern" era of the shoe and I just can't get past how utterly cheap the whole thing feels. And you can say that story is what matters and bla bla bla, but if a show looks like utter garbage, that's a point against it.Personal feelings of lameness aside, they still used the same design as the Tenth Planet. Clearly someone didn’t think they were so outdated that they wouldn’t work on screen.
That's been the plan all along! They've given us so many different versions of the Enterprise at this point that it's all starting to blend together in my head.
Not sure which one I'm seeing sometimes.![]()
It's beginning to feel like a 'One of these things...' puzzle. That's been the plan all along!
Is it mere coincidence that the Enterprise shown in all the new promotional posters looks suspiciously like the Abramsprise?
I think not!![]()
It was most likely a screw up by someone in their marketing area, who looked up images online of Enterprise and used one of the first ones they saw (probably from the Beyond posters) and matched the nacelle colors. That's been the plan all along!

Exactly. They see a saucer and 2 engines. To them, it's the Enterprise.
