I'm probably wrong, but I got the impression that the pins we've seen in the previews represent other starships lost in the line of duty.

Someone that posted about the props that were at Mission: Chicago said that the pins were worn to honor lost ships and the crews aboard them.

I don't think so, because some of the ships are still in service after this season takes place.
But I guess they could have been earlier ships that carried the same name. They don't have registry numbers on the badges to say for certain.

The placard at the convention indicated that they were for ships that were lost or had been 'returned to active service after incurring extensive damage resulting in significant loss of life'.

How big's DS9? How many decks has the U.S.S. Defiant? Why are the Federation dealing with augments in "Unnatural Selection" when it's been illegal since 1996 in DS9? What's O'Brien's rank? Why is Voyager's shuttlebay bigger on the inside?

If the modern, everyone-has-access internet existed in the 90's...

Ah, I see the confusion. To you guys, ‘continuity’ means ships need to be a consistent size, and people need to have a consistent rank. That is not at all my definition of ‘continuity.’

If they advertise their show as taking place in the same universe as another show, I expect that new show to resemble the old show where those shows overlap. A ‘visual reboot’ is still a reboot, as far as I’m concerned. It’s one thing to say that we learn that Spock had a foster sister we never knew about in the 50+ years of Trek history. That’s fine, because there’s nothing that actually contradicts it. It’s another thing to totally change the interiors and exteriors of the Enterprise. That’s not being consistent with what we saw before. It’s going out of your way to purposely change something, as opposed to revealing things we never knew before. And that’s really all I have to say about it. This thread is about starships in SNW, so my post is relevant to this topic. YMMV.
