I think Picard's discussion with Renee and the Borg Queen scenes brought this up from a 6. Picard told Renee to look up - is it possible she's the Borg Queen of the future and Jurati is just a misdirect?
Good point. But maybe every character will say that at one point, just to keep us wondering!

It was weird that Jeri Ryan hardly appeared in this - I wonder if things had to be cut due to Covid shutdowns while filming or something.
I'm starting to wonder why they made her a regular if they hardly use her. Her hang-ups with the implants/ people's reaction and now not having them deserves to be explored on a deeper level than just one-liners.

Then again, screentime or not, I feel very little thought has been put into characters other than Picard, Jurati and the BQ (and, hopefully, Q). I know I've been rolling my eyes at Rios' generic "captain dude's instant love story with woman in the past" plot, but he still may have gotten the best deal of the bunch. I've mentioned Raffi and Seven in previous threads already.

If they're more interested in exploring new characters - another Soong, Kore, Renée, MaybeLaris - alongside the trifecta, fine. (Maybe just temporarily remove some s1 characters from the board, like Elnor?) But I find Talinn strangely weak as a character so far (it's the writing, not the acting), am not all that interested in yet another mad scientist Soong, and having yet another of his creations - played by the same actress, no less - discover she's an android isn't all that captivating, either. YMMV.

- Seems that they were going for a real time effect this episode, which explains why its so short. The white font for the _ minutes earlier is straight from 24, which Annie Wersching starred on for S7 & 8.

- That shuttle from the ENT intro finally got a backstory of some sort! And interesting nickname for it, consider it was the original nickname for Trip in the show’s bible before they settled on Trip.

- Picard’s golem must be quite tough to withstand a hit and run like that.

- IDK if I’m supposed to interpret that 21st century healthcare is better than the healthcare found on the Confederation’s version of La Sirena, or if Teresa’s just a really good doctor.

- Rios’ outlook towards the 21st century refreshing, considering how it’s been perceived by other characters throughout Trek.

- So, there are 4 episodes to go. At some point Raffi’s going to talk about Elnor to someone and not just see images of him, right?

- The interplay between the Borg Queen and Jurati is very interesting.

- a bit more worldbuilding for the world that 2024 exists in, looking at the webpages Kore looked up. I'll take it that the Shenzen Convention is related to the Eugenics Wars. And that headline on the sidebar of a conflict going 30 days hits close to home in the real world, don't you think?

Better than last week's, but easily could have been merged with last week's too, since both episodes were around 40 minutes in length.

The ship can't just heal Picard on its own. You need someone who knows how to use the tools, and Jurati was missing.

With the anvil of Rios loving 21st century intensitiy (after having been detained and manhandled most of the time, but also Teresa), I almost believe he could stay behind. It's also possible he'll take her and her kid along to the future. In both cases, we already have dropped most pretenses of "don't change the timeline!"

I hadn't considered that ST: Picard might really shake up things with this cast since going into it, it was only going to run three seasons. This should give the writers freedom to take the PIC characters (absent Seven of Nine who is part of VOY as much as PIC) to places that other Trek series haven't or wouldn't dare.
Great, now I fear they're going to kill off some of them... And I don't think Seven is safe just because she is a Voyager icon. Spock and Data were iconic.

The flashbacks have to have some importance to the overall story, why would there be so many of them? There's one where young JL throws a rock at the solarium glass, but then he grabs another rock from a wall afterwards. Did JL accidentally injure someone as a child? Is this one of the big regrets in his life that Q is making him atone for / part of the "penance" theme? who is that weirdo demon in chains?

Sounds like the headgear that Tallinn wears (in a preview) is the neuro-optic interceptor that makes her eyes turn white, which we should see next week. Surprised we didn't see the scene at the gala where Tallinn "stupefies" everyone with her pen device, with JL and Rios appearing to shield their eyes - this was in one of the previews. Director Lee (Ren Hanami) returns in Episode 10 per IMDB, presumably the last episode is the launch?

Is Alison Pill actually doing the singing? The Pat Benatar cover was so good. The band is also great, does anyone know who they are? They aren't mentioned anywhere on IMDB or in the credits.

Funny that all of Adam Soong's children are named after different avatars of Persephone (queen of the underworld)- Persephatta, Artemis, Kore, Despoina. Does this imply Adam is Hades / the king of the underworld, given all his unethical behaviors?

Looks like things are moving to get Rios to stay behind with Teresa, but I can't see how that would work without messing up the timeline. BQ/Jurati is the best part of this season so far, "enough shop talk, let's play!"

That was down to a 7 for me this week. I'm enjoying the season mostly, I'm just a bit bored of Earth's past now.

Who knew Alison Pill could sing? That was amazing, as were the rest of the Jurati/Borg Queen parts of the episode.

Please activate the Emergency Medial Hologram. Oh right, evil Confederation La Sirena doesn't have one probably. Wait, even evil warlords need medical care. It might.

Also did I miss something or was Renee completely glossed over after the car attack? I'd imagine that watching Jean-Luc seemingly brutally murdered with a car that was obviously gunning for her would massively exacerbate her anxiety issues and wipe out any gains that pep talk had.

Borg Queen Jurati starts World War 3 (scheduled to hit just 2 years after this episode in 2026) by uploading a bunch of propaganda and fake news onto the internet. Oh wait, maybe this one would hit a little too close to reality. Nah, they showed Rios outright punching out ICE officers. Go for it.

Jeri (musing to self): "Ah, so this is what it felt like being a cast member on Voyager after I turned up."

They really haven't had much for her to do in the 21st century other than putting her in a car chase with a non-existent pursuer.

I want a Pretty Woman episode with Queenati playing the role of Julia Roberts.
Just let those two stranded in the 21th century and create spin off around them.

So is Jeri Ryan paid by the line? by the min? She is so expensive? I mean wtf, you have 7 of 9 only to waste her for nodding reactions?

"This is how people consume television now" isn't an excuse for so little content for such big budgets. At least make most episodes TNG or even original, unedited TOS lengths.

That goes over even worse when comparing how much the animated series do with their less than 30 minutes per ep vs how much PIC and Disco have struggled with pacing issues. It just feels like poor planning.

Jeri (musing to self): "Ah, so this is what it felt like being a cast member on Voyager after I turned up."
Heh. It wasn't her fault, though. Also, not every cast member - just everyone not being Janeway, the EMH or Seven of Nine!

As for Elnor... it's not a fridge, just temporary cryo stasis! (Even if they kill off one or more of our characters, I doubt it will be him.)

Plus, tbf, most of them weren't all that interesting before Seven arrived.
Honestly I disagree except maybe for Chakotay, who stopped being interesting as far as the series premiere when his dark, gritty Maquis past was instantly tossed aside in favor of becoming Janeway's yes-man to the point of destroying his only way home for her.
