We need an Odd Couple style spinoff with Jurati and the Queen. Jurati wants to stay in, relax, and read the latest holo-novel, the Queen wants to go out and assimilate Earth. Hijinks ensue.

Jurati has her holonovels strewn across the floor and the queen (Still immobile for some reason) uses those tentacles to pick them up.

Or Perfect Strangers... the queen moves in with Jurati because she doesn't know anyone from the delta quadrant to stay with. On the basis that Seven is Juratis' roommate and also from DQ.

Another slight step up for me over last week, and probably the best episode since the opening two...though still not perfect.

This episode is tight, both in terms of runtime (only 38 minutes and change) and in terms of the real-word time it takes place (save for the last few minutes, almost everything takes place within 34 minutes of "show time." Despite this, most of the episode is set aside for character scenes. The interactions between Jean-Luc and Renee were a highlight, but I quite enjoyed the extended scene between Raffi and Rios as well, even if it was clearly telegraphing Rios staying in the 21st century. Some things were lost in the shuffle - Seven had no role in this episode other than to be an extra, with a single line of dialogue near the end, but after weeks of coming up with pointless shit to keep characters busy...I am fine with this (though I'm wondering why Jeri Ryan signed on for this season).

I do feel like the episode loses a bit of focus at the end when the gala is over, and they start shuffling back and forth between the clinic and the Soongs. There were several logical spots to end the episode - but it just kept going. Kore's discovery that she's not a "daughter" per se, but some sort of failed experiment no doubt plays a role in the actual POD, since the second episode showcased a giant Adam Soong statue with his voice saying "a safe galaxy is a human galaxy." Maybe with Q's help he perfects his augment technology, and it's universally applied on Earth, paving the way for the Confederation?

Tallinn still isn't doing it for me. They dropped another few hints that she's actually a Romulan, but...she doesn't seem like a person to me still, just a plot conveyance. I mean, it's just too implausible that an alien with access to advanced technology would do nothing but snoop on Renee for 24 years straight. I guess we'll get some development of her next episode inside Picard's brain - where hopefully we get some conclusion to his childhood trauma arc (this time I swear I saw friggin demons, which suggests these are not things which happened literally to Jean Luc in childhood, just his shadowed remembrances.

As an episode, then, it was fine. But as part of a serialized arc, it was a bit frustrating. The episode didn't really resolve anything, and didn't answer any major questions. With Renee in quarantine now until launch I suppose that section of the narrative is done at least. But so many balls are in the air now between what assimilated Jurati will do, what's going in in Picard's head, what Soong is actually up to...and what the real POD is, since they seem to have ensured Renee will go through with the launch, yet the timeline doesn't appear to be "fixed."

There was a quick clip of Soong remembering what Q asked him about whether he'd heard the name Picard before from the previous episode. Right before Soong tries to run her down and hits Jean-Luc instead. I'm thinking Q won't be happy about this development.

Given that Soong was talking to Jean Luc at the party, is it possible that Adam Soong was supposed to run over him and not Renee?

I like how they're developing Jurati and Borg Queen... so first the Queen pulls a Scorpius on Jurati and takes over completely far faster.

I already had suspicions that Jurati was not in control when the Queen first mentioned the word (before the singing)... how could she be? The Queen's consciousness was already in her and talking with her with ability to influence her actions.. but it was interesting to see that it was stress that kept the Queen at bay.

We're basically going from bad to worse here. Also, even though Taileen (what's her name?) isn't Laris, she DID mutter something in Romulan language at the party.

I know its small, but it could be a connection. Is it possible that she becomes Laris or ends up connected to her in the future?

Didn't Q have a voice over line about stopping Renee Picard right before Adam drives the car into them? I think that was supposed to be the twist - we believed that Q was putting him there to stop Jean-Luc from doing something (since Q just said "do you know the name Picard?" onscreen), but it was always about Renee.

Q did mention apparently to Soong: 'I want you to remove an obstacle... Renee Picard'.
But given that there was a pause in between the first sentence and her name, is it possible Soong was raging (and being drunk) may have thought of her name as opposed to Jean Luc's?
I mean, he was already doing a good job at disuading Renee from going on the mission (still, he might not want to rely on just that), but its possible he knows Jean Luc is here trying to stop him.

One thing that's bugging me about people suggesting Q's meddling not being 'nefarious' (which is dubious in itself because he asked Soong to run over another human being).
If Jean Luc remembers Renee being on the mission to Europa from historical records... why would he be working so hard to alter that?
Granted, Jean Luc also said data from this time period is incomplete at best... so its possible the records are wrong.

Tallinn speaks Romulan and knows what a mind meld is, huh.

Vulcans were already in space (as were the Romulans) and were monitoring Earth... so its possible she knows about them and thier telepathic abilities.

Something that just came back to me: When NotSoji asked Soong about her mother, he briefly/ uneasily hesitated. Hmmmm... Is she an android already? Something's not right about mommy, in any case, or about the story Soong told his daughter.

I did, however, find that Kore was the name of Persephone. Kore meaning girl, maiden, innocence.
HA!

Hmmm... I wonder if someone knows a doctor to help an injured Picard!
OK, that one wasn't very hard...

(approx) 55, 54, 47, 45, 41 and 38.5 minutes. Definitely getting shorter by the week. Hoping for that trend to reverse the next 4 episodes. They could have had at least 10 more minutes of Orla Brady in there this week.

This week was an 8 for me. Still peeling the layers of the onion, but good set-up. "Head Queenie" is still some of the best parts.

Never met a damn Dr Soong who wasn't an egomaniacal a-hole who used/ victimized others...

This was very short. Mildly entertaining, but again, it would have worked so much better if they could have just wrapped up one thing (in this case the gala) within one episode.

Terribly clunky dialog alert:
Raffi's bit about falling in love with someone from another timeline.

On the plus side:
Raffi was more her old self, which I liked very much, for about 3 minutes.
Some nice scenes for Rios with Jurati, Raffi, and Teresa respectively.

And they all looked great.

Jurati/ BQ remains the most interesting part.

My favorite quote:
She does seem to check her mobile device quite a bit.
Oh, we all do that.

Also, theme alert (mostly for Picard but also several others, e.g. Seven) - dum, dum, DUM:

"A lot of what we do is protective; doesn't mean it's good for us."

So Renee watched the old guy that was helping her get run over and then just disappeared? I’ll be honest, given her issues, she’d have not left his side and probably not made it to “quarantine”. Plus she’d be such a mess over the guy that was helping her she’d be off focus. Or she runs in to the gala to get help and when she comes back outside they’re all gone, how’s that gonna help her psychological well being, wondering if it all happened?
