I don't know, I didn't feel lost or that I was missing anything, and I only played through the first game once, on PC, 15 years ago.Yeah, the lore is quite deep on this series so some aspects for casual viewers can be missed. And I'm more a casual fan, and I know that the lore regarding Master Chief, the Spartan program (1, 2 3, 4) all have a long history.
Well I assumed that since he took the helmet off the die-hards are having conniptions (and I can kind of sympathise since I'm a Dredd fan, but also on the other hand it's not something that matters to me personally.) I guess I was talking about the more middle of the road fans that just played some of the games back in the day and have fond memories, not the ones that also read all the tie-in novels, edited 20% of the fan wiki, and committed every episode of Red Vs. Blue to memory. Not even the fans like it. At least the circles I'm in. Deviates too much from the source material.

Indeed. Sounds pretty standard. That's not really a logical argument, IMO, given that reinterpreting/excising/reworking the source material is what adaptations do.
Oh, OK. I didn't realize the war had been going on that long in the games. In the games the war started in 2525. By the time Halo begins in 2552 it's the final year of the war.
I’m assuming that this is the early days of the war since the human civil war ended once the outer colonies started to get glassed. The planet shown at the beginning was the second planet that was glassed in the games shortly after the start of the war.Oh, OK. I didn't realize the war had been going on that long in the games.
But it seems unlikely that the UNSC has been able to keep the existence of the Covenant secret for that long in the show universe, if the war's been anything like it is in the games.

Never played the game. Never read the books. All I knew going in was there's a guy called "Master Chief". Interesting enough to make me watch the next episode. For some reason even the non CGI parts look CGI to me. Film stock, lighting, filters or my imagination? Dunno.
Does Master Chief go rogue in the game?
What's the titular "Halo"? Or is that a surprise?

I missed that line, but it still seems like it still seems to me like the war hasn't been going on as long as it had in the games. Even if it's been years, I find it doubtful that it's been 27 years.Except the show is set in 2552. And Parangosky mentioned they had been fighting the Covenant for years. So I really think they are just toning down the war in this continuity.
