Spoilers Halo: Season One - Discussion Thread

I can't wait to see the first rocket launchers and brute shots in the series assuming the creators want to use the whole panoply of UNSC weapons and don't leave some out just to save on the budget.

I'm curious about how much of the Covenant we'll see (and how long it'll take to see them). So far it's just been Elites and Prophets, and there were Jackals in one of the trailers, but I don't think there's been any sign of Brutes, Drones (thank God), or, my eternal favorite, those wacky, wacky Grunts. Though I suppose they'll probably be less fun since they probably won't be allowed to be silly so they'll just be hideous lobster-gorillas.

Oh, and Engineers. They're cute.

The Covenant Grunts are some of the most worthless foot soldiers in sci-fi. They make Imperial Stormtroopers on Endor look like Navy Seals in Afghanistan.

That depends on where they are getting the props. Weta had built a bunch a while back.

Engineers may show up but they usually are not combatants.

Slave forces and serf populations rarely make good soldiers.

I wonder if Miranda Keyes is still Halsey's daughter?
She is, when she was talking to her father she made a quick reference to Halsey being her mom. I don't remember exactly but I think it was something about Halsey giving her an especially hard time because she was her daughter.
It may still be pretty early in the war and I don't think they really got genocidal until they realized that humans could activate Forerunner tech and were actively searching for it since it was blasphemy in their religion. They were glassing planets to keep humans from finding it, it's why Reach got attacked.
Yeah, I got the impression this is starting a lot earlier in the war with the Covenant than the games did. I was under the impression by the time Reach fell in the game universe the war was big enough that pretty everyone would have known about the Covenant, but here nobody outside of USNC seem to know about them. Then of course Reach is still around here, while it had fallen by the beginning of the first game.

I'm currently watching Episode 1, and, based on the way things were presented vis a vis the UNSC and Kwan's people, I don't think that the fact that that old guy thought that the Covenant was just UNSC propaganda is really very useful in telling us exactly how long they've been fighting humanity or how widespread their invasion is.

the show is set in 2552 aka the same year as the first Halo game.

I really liked the first episode, but I'm not sure it was a good idea for the writing team to make half of the human Series Regular characters ***holes.

We'll see where it goes, though.

As an aside, I decided to check out the official Aftershow, and
seeing AEW's Adam Cole appear to talk about his love of the games and to mention that he walked out at AEW Revolution back at the start of the month wearing Master Chief-inspired ring gear
was really neat since AEW is now my go-to source for pro wrestling.

Never played the game. Never read the books. All I knew going in was there's a guy called "Master Chief". Interesting enough to make me watch the next episode. For some reason even the non CGI parts look CGI to me. Film stock, lighting, filters or my imagination? Dunno.
Does Master Chief go rogue in the game?
What's the titular "Halo"? Or is that a surprise?

In the games the war started in 2525. By the time Halo begins in 2552 it's the final year of the war.

Didn’t know anything about the game or novels. Loved it. Can’t wait for next week.

Not having played the games I found this tedious to watch. It felt like a big budget version of a fan show you would see on Youtube, it looks like it honors the source material well but I found it lacking as just being an engaging TV show.

Not even the fans like it. At least the circles I'm in

I don't understand why the response from some parts of the existing Halo fan base has been as harsh as it apparently has been, but i don't think it much matters.

Personally, I'm very interested in seeing where the series goes and what it does with the tapestry it's started weaving.
