I think Rios storyline has potential because I like him with the doctor but it's going to get bad if all he does on this show is run from ICE.

Also on the bus punk, in the moment I was watching it, I had no recall of his appearance in ST4, and I thought it was such a refreshingly written moment. We expect the punk to freak out and Seven to kick his ass, and instead he's kind of sweet and mumbly and oblivious. It was a fresh take on a very common trope. Everything in it works perfectly as it's own beat on this show, even if there never was a ST4.

Implied. But I think he probably just remembered that something happened to him way back when.

Anyway, this timeline has become a jumbled-up jigsaw puzzle. I like things not quite fitting.

The 29th Century timecops are having a busy day at the office, cleaning all this up. :bolian:

And this Guinan, Time's Arrow issues aside, just doesn't feel remotely like Guinan. GINO. Nothing about this interpretation of the character remotely implies she's the same character played by Whoopi even in the previous appearance in this very series.
I blame the writers and directors. Ito's interview shows her to be a huge Star Trek fan and a fan of Guinan in particular. I have no doubt she would have tried to channel Whoopi's portrayal except the showrunners told her to do their take instead. Maybe just bring Ito into Strange New Worlds to bring in a Guinan closer to what we had before.

I think the story framework this week could have worked, but my god, did this script need a top-to-bottom rewrite.

I just can't get over the number of people who presume that because the bus punk scratched his throat (not even on the correct side) that proves that he met Kirk/Spock.

It's just a scene they put in there to make us laugh. An Easter egg. It's not meant to imply anything more than that.

It doesn’t ‘prove’ anything. It’s being pointed out because, Easter Egg or not, it was shown on screen, and the reason for Guinan not remembering Picard wasn’t.

They were rushing I think, filming this and Season 3 back to back
They had lots of time for writing and revising though...

Forgot to ask: Did someone notice that after one of his childhood/ mother flashbacks, Agnes asked Picard what he was thinking of, and he said something like, "About things that haven't happened yet." Huh?!

We have yet to see the flashbacks to the small boy(Picard most likely) having the Vulcan mind meld with him. That's probably on tap for next week and may have something to do with the Watcher who resembles Laris.

I absolutely think they should have given Picard a line where he asks about San Francisco in 1893 and Guinan says she doesn't remember meeting him, in order to stop the confusion of the viewers (Picard himself would probably be confused as well right?) But honestly I don't see it any worse than during Season 1 when Soji is unloading on Picard about how it feels to realize your entire set of memories is fake...and he somehow doesn't bring up what happened during The Inner Light.

But yeah, if it happens onscreen, it's cannon. Bus Punk is cannon. That he is played by the same actor, and still has the same hair, outfit, and boom box strongly imply that it's the same character. But nowhere do they actually say that he met Kirk and Spock.

As I noted, the first two episodes were written (entirely for episode 1, and mostly for Episode 2) by the core writing team of Matalas/Chabon/Goldsman.

The last two have been written by a bunch of randos I've never heard of. Seems like they have an entirely new writer's room this season?

And honestly we don't have to take writer tweets as canon. Future Guy = Archer anyone?

Depending on how the rest of Picard goes, we might be able to say Guinan did recognize Picard upon hearing the name.
