In this timeline Guinan grew to be so bitter and angry, she even stopped wearing big hats!
It depends how far they want to go with this and if you consider writer tweets canon. Unless it's contradicted onscreen, we fans can pretend Guinan did recognize Picard upon hearing his name.

Except it's self contradictory showing the punk remembering Spock.

Not necessarily. Just because the timeline change prevented Picard and Guinan meeting, it doesn't automatically mean that the events of STTVH don't still happen. The two events aren't linked.

So yes, the punk remembers Kirk and Spock.

I fail to see how if the Fed never existing is the entire basis for the timeline change.

The actress who plays Young Guinan was also told the same thing during production when she asked about Guinan not remembering Picard.

So it was something they thought about during production. They didn't just make it up after the fact.

Nothing in the episode indicates he remembers Spock and Kirk.

That's nonsense. The entire scene is built around the in joke of him going to his neck when he's asked to turn the music down.

So either the scene is explicitly indicating he remembers Kirk and Spock, thus invalidating the changed timeline explanation for Guinan, or the writers wasted a bunch of valuable screen time on fanwank nostalgia baiting they didn't even think through all the way.

And, you know what? The conclusion is the same either way. The writing of this episode was terrible, easily one of the worst in the series to date. This may be my least favorite episode of the show thus far, and that includes the awful conclusion to last season. It's just such a shame to see them wasting a decent set up like this, pissing their time away on member berries and nostalgia schlock.

Damn. Don't hold back. It's an interesting take.

I'm not saying they didn't think about it. I'm saying how far it's expressed on screen is the canon fans really need to worry about to keep things simple.

If writer tweets are canon, Future Guy is Archer.

The Variety interview specifically says they did not have an answer for her during production, and in fact she still didn't have an answer even at the time the interview was conducted.

“I think what Terry does in terms of storytelling when it comes to time travel is just brilliant,” she said at first with a smile. “I don’t think he ever got me a clear answer on it. And I think…” She paused for a long time. “I never will.”

Fortunately, a representative for Paramount Plus did provide a rather head-squeezing answer from Matalas on this question...

Not having an answer for her at the time really bugs me. Having answers to those questions is always an aid to performance. You're not setting the actress up for success with this approach.
