Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Paramount has really bad timing for their marketing of this. Releasing this trailer the same day as the Obi Wan Kenobi trailer. When this comes out weeks before. I am looking forward to both. But this teaser could have come out sooner and shows so little.

Wow! A plethora of strange new worlds! Yes!!!

Bit Don Quixote with the windmills and PIke's search for adventures.

Chris's voicemail inbox must be full. So they send a shuttle after him!

I can't wait for the episode where they make contact with an aquatic world, and Pike rides a seahorse like Aquaman. You know they've got to!

Like Disney is telling their competition when they are dropping trailers.

The timing just speaks of how the market is right now. May shows are starting their ramp up in March. Makes sense.

Its not the same beast at all, and frankly I thank it makes perfect sense.

Trek now has nearly got original programming running full year (not quite bit pretty damn close). You generally don't want to steal the spotlight from another show, especially right before that one starts. So the first teaser needs ideally to either drop in a period that doesn't have an impact taking away from the start of another series, or the return of another series. And as you put more and more material out in the market, if you release early you risk, confusing the general public, versus the die hard fanbase who should already be significantly informed about an upcoming release.

Look at Star Wars. Notice how we didn't get a teaser for ObiWan until, Boba left the market. That was their closest to release date drop yet for their slate of shows, and is probably not a coincidence as they are growing their production slate and more and more of the year is getting filled.

So they wait until Picard has opened, and the viewing public has got a chance to immerse themselves. So hopefully an audience member has decided if this season of Picard is for them. Again for me, I assumed that since they didn't do a teaser at the last big Trek event, that the logical place for it to start would be 2 places. Right after Picard started, or right after Discovery season 4 ended.

As the slate grows, they will have this issue happening all the time. And there will never be a window anymore where you can air without having some overlap, so its about where can you drop it to snag a general audience, but also not distract for a currently airing or starting show.

From TrekCore, this is not the same trailer shown last month

In a much-more-subdued teaser (which we can confirm is different from the rapid-fire preview some fans briefly saw last month)

the shuttle to me almost feels more retro than the actual TOS shuttle with those angles and shapes
though the engines are clearly based off the modern Connie engines

Sorry, but I think I just teared up a little when the TOS theme played at the end. Anson Mount sporting the Cullen Bohannon (Hell on Wheels) look in the beginning, complete with horse!

Overall, there isn't much to go on, but I'm certainly looking forward to this! Will there finally be a section in the Streaming area for the series, since it's beyond a doubt now that it will be happening?

The timing here is really good.

Pike's uniform may look odd because it's designed to mimic the unstructured look of the TOS uniforms - little detail, knit, v-neck jersey- but has rather large set-in shoulder pads. From that angle, it's vaguely suggestive of a football uniform worn with pads.

The Enterprise exterior is still fairly dismal, but otherwise they're batting well above the STD average on visual design so far.

I love the TOS theme. Rest assured, they won't use it as the primary intro theme.
