Spoilers Strange New Worlds General Discussion Thread

Just fix the damn pylons, guys. Sheesh. You're not going to lose merchandising revenue.
Yeah that's my only big complaint with the Discoprise as well. I like the majority of the Discoprise design with the exception of the TMP style nacelle pylons. I even don't mind the center slit, but why they didn't just keep them straight up is baffling to me.

I vastly prefer it over the Kelvin era JJ-Prise

It really isn't. It isn't the one created by Matt Jefferies back in the 1960's. It has nothing to do with that Enterprise, nor can it as none of the people involved were involved with the creation of the original.

Anymore than a current Mustang or Mustang SUV (apologies @Serveaux) has anything to do with the original, it is a name and basic design being carried forward in order to sell current wares and has nothing to do with the original or original creators.

I meant in-universe. It's the same ship from TOS, just in a different art style.

How can it be the same universe if no one who worked on creating that universe is involved?
That is the nature of the franchise. Otherwise TWOK is in a alternate universe, Picard is in an alternate universe, etc.

It's part of suspension of disbelief when engaging with a multi-decade franchise. Mileage will vary, but that is the intent of the show. And that's how I will treat it, just like TMP is somehow connected to TOS.
You're right-TMP is a good insomnia cure.

Were TNG era shows a different universe from TOS once all those people had died and/or moved on?

Actually, Rick Berman was there from "Encounter at Farpoint" to "Theses are the Voyages"/Star Trek: Nemesis. So there was creative continuity throughout. With Roddenberry and several other from TOS creating TNG.

Otherwise TWOK is in a alternate universe, Picard is in an alternate universe, etc.

Except for those pesky actors who were there and part of the creative process.

Second, there's no danger of anyone telling me that the Kelvin Enterprise is how the ship always looked and TOS just didn't have the budget to show it properly.

Yeah, that's some lame bullshit. People grasping at straws.

They redesigned it, people. They did a crappy job. It's just TV, and this is not a more accurate or "proper" rendering of something that doesn't exist in the first place.

If that strikes you as arbitrary so does the standard excising Strange New Worlds.

I don't excise it, I'm planning on watching the show. It just not as the prequel to TOS, I'll hold the show accountable on its own merits. I don't need to be coddled by the producers claiming it is all the same.

No more than I imagine that your opinion of TMP is defined by it lining up with TOS.

Yes, but Gene wasn't involved past Season 4 or any of the other shows. Rick only worked on the TNG era shows, none of the TOS stuff.

Rick Berman worked with Gene Roddenberry every day for five years, it gives the connective tissue that he would be able to carry on with the universe.

Good thing the producers aren't coddling anyone.

My opinion of TMP was shaped by it being a poor follow up to what I liked about TOS. I can revisit it as its own film but apart of TOS? No. TMP fails at that level.
