Discovery Renewed for Season 5

Season 5 -

The Federation finds itself under threat from a mysterious _____________________

Any takers?
Terran empire! The gap between the mirror universe and the prime universe is bridged by the Terran empire which has conquered countless alternate mirror realities with the eevil device, will the UFP fall to the 32nd century Terran empire?
I like the space mice idea.

In the fifth season the Federation is threatened by an energy lifeform which uses telepathy to cause people to cry uncontrollably. Only the Disco crew are immune because they already cry uncontrollably, thereby giving them the advantage needed to defeat the energy being.

I was actually hoping it would be cancelled to make way for something better. This show feels something like ST Beyond or Into Darkness movies - random action movies but nothing compelling. That's why those were cancelled too, I'm assuming.

Make room for something better? There are literally 5 different Star Trek tv shows in production right now. Maybe one is more your style.

Was referring to that series of movies. Cancelled - probably rightfully so. Other star trek shows? Only Picard is going on and it's not good either. Non-compelling characters including Picard who's apparently forgotten who he was. :D The cartoon stuff doesn't count - we're talking adult shows here.

They count, And Lower Decks isn't a kids show.
As for the film series it's never been canceled. Films are still being developed.
You don't like DISCO or Picard. Move on. Check out SNW when it premiers in May,
random action movies
If you think that, you've not paid attention when watching either show, Which sounds like a "you problem".

Lower Decks IS an adult show. Well Young adult. Whatever it is, it isn't for children.

And Prodigy is a really good Trek show, made for all audiances.

Cancelled - probably rightfully so
We don't know that yet. For all we know the next movie will be in the Kelvin Timeline too.

Discovery and Picard are not like that at all.

Strange New Worlds is going back to the planet of the week style episodes we had in the 90s/early 2000s.

Beyond also has a great story, it wasn't just a random action movie.

Streaming is not a zero sum game where you have to cancel one show to free up a timeslot for another, and they seem pretty generous with their show budgets.

ST Into Darkness
and ST Beyond were not canceled seeing as how they were both made and had a wide theatrical release, so I don't know what you're referring to there.

Eh, not at all, no. Orci's original plan for the Kelvin Timeline movies was for it to be a trilogy, and indeed his original outline for the third film was one with a very definite and final end. But after he left the project, Paramount wanted a movie that would leave the door open to a potential continuation. And indeed several fourth movies have been pitched and even greenlit only to fall by the wayside die to various behind the scenes reasons.

If you're discounting the two best modern Star Trek shows out of hand, you've no one to blame but yourself for not liking current Star Trek shows. Maybe Strange New Worlds will make you happy (as long as there's nothing about it that makes you dismiss it before watching it).

they were not cancelled. A fourth movie has been in development hell for years, but this has nothing to do with “cancellation”.

Also, Beyond had a great story, imho it’s a much superior movie to the other two, it’s a pity that bad marketing sank it.

Other star trek shows? Only Picard is going on
and LDS and prodigy. And SNW, which is coming out this year. And several other live action shows currently in development.

and it's not good either
beg to differ. Picard had ups and downs but I found it pretty good on the most part.

Why don’t they? LDS is pretty adult and prodigy is surprisingly far from being dumbed down.
Lower Decks IS an adult show. Well Young adult. Whatever it is, it isn't for children.
I’d say OLD adults: their main target audience seem to be berman-era fans, once they get over it being animated.
And Prodigy is a really good Trek show, made for all audiances.
agreed. A delightful surprise so far.

I shouldn't have to be told to 'pay attention' - it should be fun enough on its own. What's next, I have to take notes while watching? :D That's the problem with discovery. But you're partly correct because it's too stupid a show to be interested in. I'm not interested in the deep (yet shallow) personal struggle of every single character, on every episode. It's like a soap opera with all these complex, boring relationships that have nothing to do with 'star trek'. Like all the other superficial things about the show, it's cheap - easy to write but boring to watch.
