In the previous page, we see the votes "For" and "Against", and it shows apparent Cardassian, Vulcan, Romulan(?), and Ferengi symbols on both sides, in addition to the generic Federation symbol, but no hint of the recognized Klingon symbol (the three blades) in use. Also no UE symbol or Risa symbol that I can tell.

As I said upthread, I really get the idea this season the VFX in post-production were rushed/sloppy, with a lot of cut/paste. Between the embarrassing "family tree" in the previous two episodes, and the bad depictions of the location of 10-C and Zora's subconscious...I haven't been impressed.

A little heavy on the talking here, I think Trek is best with a mix of action and smarts, sometimes Discovery seems to lean too heavy on one or the other. I guess it's dramatic license but Book and Gray probably don't have any business being present at the discussions they were involved in.

Well, Book is the (only) representative of Kwejian.

I heard there was a Cardassian delegate, but didn't spot them in the episode. Anyone know what shot they were in? Or if there's a picture online? Curious to see how they're approaching Cardassian makeup.

Largely unchanged from TNG, DS9 and VOY.

Usually not one for anything all yappy like this, but the topics here were surprisingly engaging.

Where is Kirk to out-wit a computer when you need him, eh?;)

Did anyone else think they saw Data in Zora's family tree? Top branch just left of center in background. His history most certainly would have survived the century's, and been available for her to access at some point in her upgrade.

I think hope wonder if, the Klingon's killed themselves off. I can see how their attempted alliance with Fed eventually could have led to an apocalyptic civil war. As a message of how their kind of authoritarian politics may not be ideal for long term survival then I could live with their absence in this time frame.

How do those instant transporters work anyway? Do they read your thoughts as to where to go? I think there should always be a slight element of danger to using a transporter which bugs me a little with these.

The speed of plot concerning them has so far been that they simply work. Me, I think transporter malfunction story's by this time should be a rare thing so I am pleased they work so well. When a story comes along about them not working, then your wish will be fulfilled.

but why omit the franchises most recognizable alien race.

Unless they have some big, grand reveal in mind. Even if it’s extinction.
Thus far the only reason I am hearing for the Klingons to show up is "because Star Trek." It makes very little sense to have them included thus far in the story. I don't see anything odd about omitting one alien race. The galaxy is big, and supposed to be new and different from what the Discovery crew is used to. Having them interacting with new races (to them) while navigating the changes around their familiar races (Earth, Vulcan) makes more sense. The Klingons are not a part of that.

At least to me.

Clearly my mileage is completely different on this model.

We also saw several cardassians in Season 3. None up close, but there are BTS pictures

That looks terrible
How???

Cardassian makeup looks great. Exactly what I'd expect/want from something old, updated. Making the pointy bits more 3D is very Disco. I am indifferent on upsizing the spoons. All in all, this is a completely inoffensive update and I'm all for it!

New Cardassians are to Old Cardassians as TNG Klingons are to TUC Klingons, in terms of makeup craziness.

I just had a thought, the existence of the Mirror Universe is public knowledge in the 32nd century (and probably fairly earlier), isn't it?

I enjoyed it. But I'm a bit surprised they mentioned "all four quadrants" without seeing any known races from the Gamma and Delta Quadrants. The Dosi and the Kazon?
I was hoping for that too. I thought the guy in orange might a Founder, but no.
Grudge's pet carrier is disappointingly low tech. I expected a miniature holodeck she can stretch her legs in and explore. Much less stressful, I should imagine.

Not many advances in pet care in 900 years.
How do we know it's not a holo deck. After all a holodeck from the outside is just a big room.

I tried to get my dad to watch some of this series and he complained that they spend too much time making speeches when they’re in danger. This episode is a perfect example of that problem. When something is capable of destroying entire worlds, it’s probably time to take it out, minimizing casualties to the extent possible but still removing the threat.
Has he seen Star Trek. A lot of speech making and meetings in the face of danger. It's pretty much an injoke in fandom that Picard aways calls a meeting.

I'm slightly annoyed that despite cast members repeatedly leaving, (Tilly, Nhan), the bridge crew cast (Patrick Kwok-Choon, Sara Mitich, etc.) aren't given the chance to use their characters to fill the gap, and instead guest stars are brought in (the latest being Tarka) for acting drama that could still be done by the bridge crew (the most bizarre example being the random prisoner a few episodes ago who got all this drama despite the episode start leading us to believe Rhys would get more screentime).
What? How do you substitute the bridge crew for any of the guest stars? That's not the story. Should they have used Uhura instead of Mira in LIghts of Zetar? Should Sulu be substituted for Daystrom in Ultimate Computer?
