Building the Eaglemoss Enterprise-D partwork

Stages 35 through 38

The saucer is really coming along now. We have a new stretch of outer rim plates that are running on the edge, and a quadrant of panels installed where one of the impulse engines will be. I'm especially looking forward to getting the outer rim of the saucer done, as that's where the bulk of the windows are. I won't miss stages where you install 30 plus windows on one panel!

Well, I'll be having nightmares about this part for a while. Long story short, in the previous stage I had used the wrong LED lights and plugged them in the wrong section, requiring me to partially disassemble the neck. That disassembly broke one of the wires on the switch that powers everything on and off. The only solution I could come up with was to remove the wires from the switch, take some of the wire coating off, and solder the wires to the switch. I've never soldered before and these are tiny wires, so this was quite the task (not to mention I had to buy a soldering iron!). After an hour, I FINALLY got the wires attached and the switch working, and everything is working after reassembly. I'm really hoping I don't run into an issue like this again though!

It won't get attached til the next issue, but this is the final large part of the cobra neck section. I am really looking forward to getting it on and wrapping the neck section up (outside minor details that will cover the screws). Hopefully once it's all sealed up I won't have any more stress about that switch!

We also lowered the amount of extra hull plates laying around. You can see we added a couple plates not installed yet, but a net drop in loose parts is always a good thing. Waiting on issue 11 now, which will fill the first binder!

What's with the font used on Goddard? Might be the angle, but it looks like the TOS logo typeface rather than the correct Microgramma bold.

Just the name Goddard - the registry and Enterprise bits look ok. Actually, Shuttlecraft 15 looks strange too, but it's much smaller on @Timofnine's pic. Possibly I'm going mad.

Why is there never any love for the Onizuka? As a Challenger buff, seeing that shuttle was my favorite point-at-the-screen-and-go-ooh!-ooh! moment of TNG.

Oh, and D models look amazing.

Quick update: I haven't gotten a shipment in the past month, guessing from the shortage of parts due to everything being on barges that are taking forever to unload. That being said, I got an e-mail from Eaglemoss that I am getting the Enterprise print that originally only came out in the UK, which at the time was advertised as limited to 2500 copies. Not sure if this is another print specifically made for the US or since this print was unpopular in the UK and tons of people opted not to get it if the leftovers are being directed at the US market.

A quick progress post, top of the saucer section is almost complete….

Shuttle set is cute too.

What stages were your final panels for the top of the saucer? I just received 35-38 the other day but haven't opened them as Eaglemoss never sent me 34 in the last shipment, so I've had to pause until that arrives.

When you say "print", are you talking about some kind of poster? Genuinely stumped about what that could be as I'm a UK subscriber.

Yea, it's a poster. If you check Tim of Nines latest post, it's in the background in their last photo.

I've had to cancel my subscription for now as potentially finances might get badly messed up
That’s a great pity.

A part/build collection like this would scare for that very reason. If you stop collecting the starship models you still retain those on the shelf. If you stop to build, however, you’re left with bits and pieces that are useless.

It's nice to see that your builds are coming along so nicely, looks really good. Sadly, I haven't received any shipments of Enterprise parts for three months now (I did get the shuttles though). I was wondering: has anyone else had problems recently? Sadly, contacting Eaglemoss customer service is a game of mostly waiting and not much happening, or confusing, sometimes contradictory answers. Do any of you happen to know what's going on there, or is it just me?

I’ve not had any parts for a nearly two months now either…. I have no idea why? I deleted my Facebook profile so can’t follow the groups anymore to see what is going on. I think that it might be something to do with Brexit/COVID and shipping problems? Or maybe it’s something to do with a design problem? The demonstration models have never been shown with the saucer separating, it’s always been fixed in place… one of the last things that I read was that some people were thinking that the saucer and secondary hull/cobra neck connection might not be strong enough to support the weight of the saucer section? So maybe they have run in to a design flaw and they are trying to fix it before they send parts out? For example, the two phaser bank ‘buttons’ to release the saucer on the cobra neck are not actually connected to anything? How will they work? Will the plastic saucer connection struts support the weight of the saucer? I just don’t know! That’s pure speculation by the way…. I just can’t see why there is suddenly this massive delay…. Ah well, will sit tight and wait to see what happens as I have been thoroughly enjoying this model so far and hope to continue doing so?

Word for word, this is how I see it too. But this very long delay has me worried, especially because the Eaglemoss customer service is not proactive at all in communicating, well, anything.

I saw some YouTube video recently from a builder who expressed concerns about the stability of the finished model. So hopefully the delay is partly to figure out potential issues.

Well, I have just had an email apologising for the delay in shipments and saying that my next shipment is being processed for dispatch now that they have restocked all the missing parts. This is a UK customer service response btw.

Watch this space! :bolian:

Good news indeed! Same here. And in fact, on the same day that they announced shipment, it was already here. Since I asked for a load-up, I'm now back on track (if some eight shipments behind most people since I started late). Let's hope they can keep their schedule from now on.

El-Baz looks fine but the Goddard font is definitely the TOS one. Weird.

It's been a while, but my cards finally been charged. I'm not sure if its the print or parts or both coming in, as I just got a notification of a charge made and I haven't looked to see how much yet, gonna prolly not look to keep it a surprise for when it comes in lol. Hoping for both to be honest, I'm ready to finally finish the neck section and would like to hang the print up in the game room.
