Federation HQ had the EMH with the bowtie. I'd like to see an EMH show up on Discovery if Culber is wounded and the rest of the senior medical staff are also incapacitated.
I'm pretty sure they can create Holograms that don't gain Sentience or Sapience by the 31st Century and are just glorified tools.

Don't even need phasers, the Fire Containment System can do double duty as an intruder containment system... Suround them in a force field, wait for them to pass out from the lack of oxygen. Or just use the transporter system to transport them to a brig.
There's suspension of disbelif, but its hard to do at times...

What version of absolute candor gets J'Vini into this "Bynars-can't-trust-Federation" dilemma which apparently had her as the only one working on this lost cause for... years? Do the Qowat Milat of 3190 value latinum more than sisterhood? And how does Gabrielle Burnham interpret absolute candor? They drop occasional candor bombs but they play candor pretty close to the vest. Jurati believed that precept meant: "It's their primary teaching: total communication of emotion without any filter between thought and word."
In nearly 800 years and StarFleet hasn't learned anything about internal security.
It's very hard to believe that a organization would be this incompetent that they can create a "Intruder Alarm", yet do nothing automated to contain the situation.
We've all listed multiple solutions to the problem.
DISCO writers simply pretend they don't exist and will never use them unless they want to for plot / drama reasons.

the same organization that has to manually say "Shields up" at Red Alert. In what Red Alert situation would your shields NOT be up? shouldn't that be the default?

I concur, Shields would be activated by default on Yellow Alert IMO.
Weapons should be ready on Red Alert.
That's because shields only go up automatically on Reed Alert.
I kinda feel like if they were willing to accept Adira last season, and allow Grey to be removed from Tal this season into an android body permanently, then these two are going to get every free pass they will need. At whatever point the Trill put a stop to something it will feel out of character at that point to me.
And T'rina's reaction after the meld was my favorite subtle moment of the episode. So many actors have had their own individual takes on 'being Vulcan' and I am really enjoying hers. She feels fresh.
This whole side mission of getting Stamets to the institute seeded in previous episodes just to get Book this mindmeld was silly, but the emotional payoff for Book's mini arc was lovely to see. He's a great actor. Maybe a little rushed, but I guess I also wouldn't have wanted him to be depressed for a whole other episode. Stamets being an ass during the Jedi Council meeting was almost unbearable.
Gave it an 8. Super enjoyable and refreshingly standalone. Felt like a good old fashioned procedural mission with a twist and a character driven B-story.
They did in TOS. They probably do still come on automatically but Riker just likes saying "Red Alert, Shields up!"

This was the best episode of the season thus far. I voted 7, but it's a close 8.
Finally got to see a glimpse of a Starfleet vessel that looks like a Starfleet vessel. The instant pop in transporters are kind of ridiculous. After they boarded the ship and attacked the crew why didn't security just pop in and subdue the invaders?
Michael wasn't super cringy this week. I enjoyed the Vulcan scenes. Book got some closure. The aliens they saved were cool looking. This Federation president is definitely a meddler and micro manager. We got to see Guardian Z again, although how he can sense brain wave activity as a hologram defies belief (Vulcan mind melds are way more plausible
), but it was an all around decent episode.

I enjoyed this one. Much better than last weeks. I gave it an 8.
I enjoyed the main plot and subplots. They all seemed to work together to create an entertaining whole. Not so much anomaly oriented. At this point, I don't know what to make of the anomaly. Whether it'll be a plus or a drag on the season. I can see it going either way.
But this episode got everything right. A nice blend of characterization, main plot, subplots, action, and slower moments. Nicely done!

Yup, that's a case where they haven't fully thought through the implications of the technology! Auto beam out to a holding area for unauthorized inbound transports.
