I would think that Spock would have sent an updated medical database on Earth-derived humanity to go with Pike to Talos. Just in case with no promises for anyone involved to be held to, right?

 

No... No... No. If you're going to bring in Charles 'Trip' Tucker; you can't do it on Star Trek; Strange New Worlds.

He has to be the current leader of Section 31 in the 23rd century; and replaced as head by Empress Philippa Georgiou In the opening episode of that series when it comes to pass.

No he wasn't accepted and he didn't still have a place per se. They did what they did out of respect for the sacrifice he made in saving all those cadets plus the years of service he gave to Starfleet and the Federation. Hell, when Spock brings up the idea of court-martial aboard the Enterprise in TOS S1 "The Menagerie"; Kirk's initial response is that it requires a board of three command rank officers, and that there are only two. Spock counters stating that there are three members of command grade available, to which Kirk responds that the request is denied because Fleet Captain Pike Is a complete invalid.

Spock responds that Pike is still listed on the active duty roster. Commodore Menendez then interjects that "We didn't have the heart to retire him..."

At best that's respect, at worst it's some form of pity; but it's not acceptance of Pike per se as Pike had no duties whatsoever beyond sitting in his room and being monitored 24/7 by medical personnel.

 

I honestly don't see them touch on Menagerie just becuase its years in the future after Kirk takes over and thus not that relevant to a Pike commanding The Enterprise show.

 

If they want to show more Pike shows us him living his life on Talos. I actually would love to see a show about that. Him and Vina helping the Talosians while exploring a alien planet and having access to illusions. You had other aliens beings also who had been captured and whose to say more aliens can't show up who doesn't have to follow Federation's rules about the planet. Maybe Gary Seven is in a two-parter or Q.

 

In the latter case, only because they were able to retain the actor in a parallel role.

 

That translates merely as "They couldn't resist going there, because it was a bit of fan service that appealed to them as cool in the moment." It's on the same page as the Guardian.

 

Can we all agree, canon be damned, that the BEEP-BEEP wheelchair massively underestimated even technology for assisted speaking that came about 25 years down the pike (see: Stephen Hawking -- also, pun greatly intended). So, the idea that 23rd century tech couldn't be used to process his speech is incredibly ridiculous.

Pike can still have his accident, but as sure as my name is James R. Kirk, I can ignore how it was depicted in the Cage. SNW can conceivably continue even with the accident, and keep Pike on.

 

They won't, they already acknowledge it on Discovery. The whole point of that sequence was taking that crystal would lock him into that fate.

Same as above, they already showed him in the chair in Discovery. Though, did they have him beep? I don't remember.

 

Yes, he beeped in the face-melting vision Pike had.

I thought it was just seeing what is most likely to happen in the future, not necessarilly accepting that it was pre-destined. We all know how Star Trek plays fast & loose with Time-lines / Destiny.

Absolutely.

Plus, no one involved had ever played Twenty Questions. Or heard of binary coding.

 

It doesn't even take into account that Pike can have Betazoid assistants to help him communicate. Or even Spock right there with a Vulcan mind meld.

 

The only change to the technology was that his wheelchair had more lights on it this time but it was still just an electronic beeping sound to communicate.

 

Then you weren't actually playing attention because it was explicitly stated that if Pike took the Time Crystal, he would lock himself into the future that he saw when he touched it.

 

I always assumed that the electronic chair was a last resort because the radiation from the accident was still degrading his body and eventually even the chair wouldn't be able to keep him alive.

Spock insisted on taking him back to Talos so that he could live out the few remaining months he had in a more dignified manner.


Also, now that the Talosians had been in contact with Humans, they might actually have been able to cure Pike at some point.

They were a pretty advanced civilization, even without being able to live on the surface.
(Vina was pretty mangled and on death's door, but they still managed to get her back to a functional state, albeit without knowing exactly where everything went)

 

Nope. He said taking the crystal would lock the fate.

 

Sure. Just also need to ignore Discovey too.
