Something I’m confused about…

In the meeting they say that there has been a sighting of a mugato on the planet and that it’s not a native species, however when they get there there are many of them…how come? The ferengi are getting them somewhere else and only using the planet as a base or what?

The Ferengi probably obtained a breeding pair through dubious means and since it seems Mug/Gum-ato's are a horney lot, it just took off from there.


Also, we don't know exactly how long they've been breeding them.
(and apparently, the creatures are Bi-lingual & Tri-dexterous)

This was ok, not as good as ep 2 or 3, for me. The main conflict (Boimler and Rutherford being suspicious of Mariner) felt forced. Even though I liked the outcome (B + R are badass with their brains!). And nice to see anoter unusual pairing with those two. I did like Tendi's storyline. 7/ 10.

ETA: They're going to kill off Shax again, this time for good, at the end of the season, aren't they?

This was my favorite of the season so far. Again, I love them switching up the dynamics by having Boimler and Rutherford together this week. Lower Decks continues to develop its character so well; arcs are properly set up, developed, and resolved by the end in an incredibly satisfying way.

My bet is that he'll end up like "Kenny" during the early days of South Park. They'll kill him off at the end of every season; and then by the second or third episode of the next season, Shax will be back on duty like nothing happened.

I don't think the horn/tusk is the Mugatu's genitals (or at least, not the main one), based on the positioning of the two lovers on top of the hollow log (unless that was all foreplay). Most likely, the Gumato was being imitative with its right hand, and its left hand was doing the required action for proper voyeuristic enjoyment.

Given that the Mugata later joins them, it could be that the stroking of one's horn/tusk is a sexual display of some sort, showcasing their prowess in preparation for the mating act. If the tusk/horn is made out of ivory or some sort of dentin, then there should be no physical sensation for the Mercato to retrieve pleasure from. But, it's an alien, so who knows?

I don't think the mugato masturbating his horn requires any more explanation than Ferengi lobes.

Yeah, that was one of my suggestions too, except that the tuskhorn probably doesn't have sensitive nerve endings (unlike a Ferengi's earlobes, which are said to he especially sensitive), so the creature shouldn't be receiving pleasurable feelings from that part of its anatomy.

I'm leaning towards a sexual display of phallic coordination. Alternatively, the tusk does have strong sensation, but that seems unlikely given its use in combat.
