Logically that's true, however it's probable referencing a deep cut from the comics where "inertial dampers" fitted to his hammer make it hit harder the farther it flies.
Okay, whatever comics writer came up with that terminology did not think it through. Damping and increasing are opposites. I guess maybe they were thinking of how inertial dampers in science fiction make it easier for a starship to accelerate or change course, but acceleration requires thrust. Just being thrown and flying ballistically is a different situation altogether. There, damping the object's inertia would make it slow down faster, because it has less resistance to deceleration from air friction. It certainly wouldn't make it accelerate.
