    they are pakled ships.

by the way, there are a few differences in the look of the Cerritos, most notably in the nacelles, no doubt the results of the refit she got in the last episode of season 1.

    Now it's up!
The head was a little too silly, but it's overall ok. Not as good as some S1 episodes, but better than others.
    The ship scenes look great!

So it didn't seem particularly funny, aside from a few lines. There was quite a lot of emotional resonance, though, which made watching it a joy. I voted 8.

I loved the updated LCARS, now being more like later 90s style. I also loved Ransom's head floating around everywhere in an homage to Gary Mitchell.

Loved the little glimpse of Boimler in his new role! And the way Frakes kept delivering Riker's lines at the end creased me up. His face as well!

Ransom's head rising up to the Cerritos was the closest the episode came to getting a laugh out of me.

Ransom's head detaching and flying off after the ship was the highlight for me. It was total fluff, but I enjoyed it.

Sometimes completely dumb and self-referential Trek is the most fun Trek. It wasn't remotely perfect but I had a good time.

I was pleasantly surprised to see Season Two's opening episode pop up on my Amazon Prime Video in Australia today. We waited many months for a deal to be sealed on Season One.

I watched it with a friend - my Covid Lockdown buddy - who had not seen any of Season One, and he still enjoyed it. Yay Ensign Jennifer! (I had to do a quick explanation on Gary Mitchell, why we wouldn't necessarily see much of Boimler, and that Caitians had been on TAS.)

It was a lot of fun. We then watched Episode 1 of Season One. My fourth time for that one, and friend's first.

I enjoy the fact they leaned in to that Andorian woman being named Jennifer for some reason.

With the ep being set 3 months after S1 finale, does the show still take place in the year 2380?

Could the Apergosians be the same species as Chekov's yellow-skinned Thrall from "Gamesters of Triskelion"?

If I had one complaint it would be that they ditched the Freeman/Mariner partnership to soon on screen. Maybe give it an episode or two.

It could be neat if the Andorian spelling is Ginephir

Or, Jennifer is deliberately using either a Federation Standard name, or has her natural name Anglicised*.
One of my colleagues told me her mother gave an Irish name with an English spelling, so that her CV wouldn't be immediately dismissed for being black on job applications.

I'm consistently using an anglicised while in England, including with authorities. As long as they don't hear my accent, they cannot immediately pick up on me being an immigrant.

*In the non-canon Star Trek: New Frontier novels, the Xenexian M'k'nzy of the village Calhoun adopted the name Mackenzie Calhoun while at Starfleet Academy.

I always thought Ensign Jennifer was a gag on the humans and their/our creeping imperialism across the galaxy, a bit of DS9-style deconstruction -- humanity is becoming so dominant that the aliens are just starting to choose human names.

That seems a little dark on the humor side. I would like to see some humans with clearly alien names to balance it out, having the reverse also be true. It's not unlikely that there are humans in Starfleet that have named their children after famous aliens in Starfleet.

Why not have fun with exotic names? People like different names for a variety of reasons.
