Spoilers 31st/32nd Century Ships Revealed

Nuke for orbit. Got it. It's not overkill if we haven't killed everything, including potentially crippling ourselves.

Well, F. King Daniel was lamenting the lack of weaponry advancement or upgrade in 900 years, so I posited some possible developments along that line. These are indeed ruthless weapons, but fear of annihilation from an unknown Burn-generating threat, or its like, would motivate engineers to put their morality aside.

I recall how Captain Archer wasn't keen on having weapons on his ship of exploration, but he changed his tune after having been exposed to numerous dangers, some lethal.

Oh, I'm not disagreeing with the idea of weapons, nor your possible developments. I'm more lamenting the sheer stupidity of potential subspace altering weapons and potential consequences.

Presumably, future weapons development would be about increasing precision damage. Because 24th century tech can already increase payloads/area of effect. Voyager had massive tricobalt warheads but instead relied on photon torps.

Surgical strikes at enemy systems is preferable over blowing up their ships. Plus, in the Trek timeframe, Humans have an evolved sensibility compared to 21st century Humans.

For concrete examples of 32nd century weaponry, let's look at STO again.
The Janeway class (Intrepid-class refit) is equipped with a photonic cannon, a devastating energy weapon.
The Crossfield-class refit retains the spore-drive to perform the Lorca maneuver, and can deploy a Kwejian attack craft.
The Courage class is equipped with a force translator. Official description: "This technology suite is capable of translating the force of your starship's forward movement, combined with its mass, into destructive energy that can be immediately released upon nearby enemies."

Yes, Omega torpedoes are something of a nuclear option. Probably best kept safeguarded and secret. And used with utmost discretion, if at all.

Don't get me going on the device which freezes Fluidic Space solid. Now standard in Starfleet vessels patrolling the Delta Quadrant. Colloquially known as "the A/C."

Honestly, more precise technology is what I had in mind, not more nuclear style weapons. Omega is something that can render warp drive inoperable. Use of it, when there are multiple other options, is hard to justify.

Telepathic weaponry might be your ticket. If you can't beat your enemy, then get them to join your cause! Take over their brain and body. Not without precedence in Trek. Although it can be self-defeating.

That sounds like a technological (instead of telepathic) weapon that exists in Star Trek: Armada II. The Borg diamond/octahedron can temporarily take control of any spaceship and its crew. The effect is time-limited.

You can use it to assimilate without assimilating. For instance, fire the weapon at an Undine (Species 8472) mothership to keep it docile, have it produce a passive embryo. Keep the mothership occupied/distracted until the embryo is safe - it can then evolved into another mothership, and the Borg controls Species 8472!

Similarly, take control of a Federation Galaxy-class battleship. Engage in saucer separation. Leave the vessel separated until the effect has worn off. Then you have an unassimilated Starfleet vessel unter Borg control.

Those damn Borg are like that fungus which zombifies ant colonies...

Sick question to put to all of you: how would you imagine reactions from past engineers on the newest ships?

Trip: *speechless. Mind blown*

Scotty: "Would you look at the size of those beasties! How in the name of hell can *that* generate a stable warp field?"

Geordie: "That one looks like a wedding ring. I think I'm in love."

O'Brien: "Detached nacelles? Give me an hour and I'll tell you how they did it. I'll bet you Quark can get you the pylons...for his usual price."

B'Elanna: "The U.S.S. Voyager-J... J for Janeway, no doubt. I wonder if the Doctor's serving on board."
Tom: "Knowing the Doc, he's probably her Captain."

Of note, the USS Jubayr doesn't wear the same registry as on the CBS studio art (NCC-325080 instead of NCC-325068). USS Nog has NCC-425071 instead of NCC-325070.

So this is to supposed scale (minor perspective issues notwithstanding)? I thought the four-naceller was massive in comparison with SF HQ in the "There is a Tide" battle, while the scout would have been smallish to prompt the reaction from Owo in "Die Trying". But now I can see the scout has scale-establishing windows to suggest at least the above size, while the four-naceller has none...

Thanks for sharing!
In the picture I'm seeing, the Nog still has the original serial number.
But the switch for the USS Jubayr is mysterious. Perhaps the previous number had been taken from another ship?

Plus! This reveals which ship is the USS Thaant! So we can call it the Thaant-type now until the class name is revealed on 17 August.

And - wooowww! - the USS Curie has the registry number NCC-81890-J, like the USS Curie from Kirsten Beyer's VOY novels!

Gorgeous!

She looks like she's been carved from stone. I just love that.

And mounting deflector emitters to the pylons is inspired.

Any idea on how big she is?
It's so close to being really nice but suffers from the same problem almost all Disco ships have which is it is full of utterly redundant holes

I'm a big fan of all of these designs. I'm really glad they went for diversity in the ship design and made some of the ships completely unrecognisable as a Federation Starship, some that clearly carried on the traditional starfleet design lineage, and some that blurred the lines between the two design styles. Also the Eisenberg class looks stunning at that angle.

It's 1 number off. 325071 on the eaglemoss Render, and 325070 in the show.

The Eaglemoss render/model is also missing the name and registry on the side of the hull like in the show. There' also a gray patch on the side of the Eaglemoss model that isn't on the show model.
I wonder if CBS gave them outdated models. Or if it was changed after they got the models.

You know what, I think the Nog's name/registry in DSC Season 3 shot was added in post production.

Discovery passes it by the side, but there's no visible name there on the model so they had to add it later. the USS in the shot also doesn't have any '.' between the letters, and the spot lights overlap.

This detail here is on the show model, but it seems to be heavily blurred in the shot, might have been from post editing in the name and registry. Just a theory.

The Orville-style woven pattern of the "Bussards" is the one aspect short of perfection here IMHO, making the solid design less than solid at the exact wrong place. If this is to be our "new Defiant", let the front part have the solid armored look, and place the webbed or tangled parts somewhere farther aft...
