So the province of Alberta has decided to do away with virtually ALL their pandemic measures by the end of August. They had already removed indoor gathering limits at the beginning of July, and I believe most provincial masking guidelines have also been removed too. As of Thursday, close contacts of a infected person are no longer legally required to isolate (it is merely “recommended”), contact tracers will no longer notify close contacts, and asymptomatic testing will no longer be recommended. As of August 16, infected people will no longer be required to isolate (still “recommended”), and symptomatic testing will be reduced. For August 31, all COVID testing will be stopped except for very severe cases, and masking requirements will be removed for schools, public transit, and most continuing care facilities. They are basically ending the entire Test, Trace, Isolate paradigm.
Meanwhile, Alberta has one of the lower vaccination rates in the country, PHAC has indicated that we are on the verge of a Delta-driven fourth wave, and the American CDC has released findings that show that vaccinated people, although much less likely to be symptomatic, are still able to spread Delta at the same rate as unvaccinated people.
To quote a certain other space-based franchise, “I’ve got a bad feeling about this.”
