So Carter is the Senator from Georgia in this timeline. IRL he was never in the Senate.
In our world Reagan primaried Ford in 76 and lost but in there world he wasn't up against gop incumbent so won the primary and the election with rfk being term limited (or did he go in disgrace as his peccadilloes were catching up in S1?)
Carter either ran and a lost in 76 (which was a narrow win) or never ran for the presidency.
Though speaking of term limits, as they'e in 83 and Reagan was first elected in 76 he's also term limited.
Don't recall any mention of who the VP is.
If Reagan winning in 76, George H. W. Bush probably stayed as the DCI.
You're correct. He was governor and a Georgia state senator. But never a US senator. So Carter is the Senator from Georgia in this timeline. IRL he was never in the Senate.
Great summary, pretty much my thoughts and fears.I knew the Cold War was going to escalate soon via the Space Race...but I hadn't expected it to kick off like that. I had really grown to like Tom (especially after that talk between him and Ellen about their mutual love for space) so I'm going to really miss him. But that single moment served multiple purposes. Not just to worsen relations between the US and Russia, but also to accelerate Jamestown's plans to retake the crater that was stolen from them as well as jettisoning Ellen's personal plans for leaving NASA and coming out.
Pam saw it before Ellen did. Just in the single moment upon arriving with flowers and cookies, she saw how damn good Ellen was stepping into Tom's shoes and dealing with the situation meant that not only would Ellen stay put, but that Pam would also probably insist on it. That conversation hasn't happened yet, but I can tell that Pam knows she cannot ask Ellen to walk away from a career she's so damn good at and clearly loves, not for the sake of their relationship. Whether or not Pam stays at Ellen's side, I'm not sure of, but I do fear that Ellen is going to be the target of the paparazzi, a fear that I felt during their bedroom scene with the balcony doors hanging wide open, a fear that I felt even before the president called.
Margo continues to show her humanity when, upon seeing the plans of the secret Soviet launch that was blatantly based on their own technology, she responded with deep concern about the safety of the civilians involved because of a flaw that NASA's technicians discovered and prevented (and we find out the Challenger explosion did not happen!). She wanted to warn them despite the secretive nature of the situation, despite the blatant espionage on both sides, despite the risks for the Cold War on both Earth and on the Moon...and of course Gen. Bradford immediately shut her down. So what does Margo do? She commits treason by carefully warning Sergei of what's going on. I applaud her for what she did but that action is going to haunt her one way or the other.

I am 99% certain that was Sergei Korolev, legendary rocket engineer, and the point of divergence between our timeline and the one in the show. He was the USSR’s counterpart to Wernher von Braun, and they may have reached the moon had he not died in 1966.Who was the excuse me lack for better term "Vodka/Saussage guy" visiting Danielle in the "legendary" Cosmonaut "hotel" room?
Also, nice that she still left her name there too!

Dobro pozhalovat', tovarishch. Thanks or should I say spasibo
Very interesting and fascinating reading up on the history of him, as well as the shot down plane. (international relations at it's worst)
Gen. Bradford made it explicitly clear that knowledge of the Soviet secret launch was classified (although classified as what...that really drives me nuts in films and shows, even if it's obviously top secret SCI in this case). If Bradford suspect the reason the launch went through without a problem and suspects Margo somehow leaking it, he could easily find out who was on guard duty when, find who was in the room where it happened, and possibly even figure out that Margo said enough to tip off Sergei. I know it's a stretch but the military is also paranoid as fuck, especially during the Cold War.Thing is - was this flaw classified and has it been declassified? Could go both ways. if it's the first she obviously committed treason but i don't think something will come out of it as the only people within hearing distance were the Soviet and US guards and she was careful not to speak directly about it but in "engineer code" ( unlikely either of the guards would have guessed the real meaning).
Honestly, it's so damn weird that I'm going to ignore it as much as I can. Unless proven otherwise down the road, I feel like this plotline is the show's first misstep. I say that as someone who loves everything else about the show.I was not surprised that Karen made out with him but it was still a bit cold to immediately jump her husband after this, i wonder where this storyline is going to lead.
I agree that it is overplayed but it worked here because they were all humming (first just one then slowly everyone including Tracy after rolling her eyes). It helps that they only played the actual music for only a few moments before switching gears.Ride of the Valkyries is so overplayed when it comes to such scenes but i still had a a smile - nice scene too though from a visual perspective. We have seen the Star Wars trench run a million times but it was cool to see it with real physics behind it, reminded me of those small videogames where you had to land on various platforms while gravity pulled at your craft.
Oh, nice catch there. I don't know much about the Soviet Space Program beyond the biggest moments so I don't think I was even familiar with him until now.I am 99% certain that was Sergei Korolev, legendary rocket engineer, and the point of divergence between our timeline and the one in the show. Season one Karen would have reacted quite differently. That kid had better pray that Ed never finds out, a guy that is bigger, stronger and also outranks him.Honestly, it's so damn weird that I'm going to ignore it as much as I can.
