It's possible 2 of these might get made, but I think the new STU shared universe movies have yet to really develop. I could see 3 or 4 movies with some radically different premises happening, but it might be awhile. One of these might be Hawley's movie, which was not canceled per se but put on the back burner.

Possibly worse...Hawley's movie might be analogous to In Thy Image because it was almost in production, and the other 3 ideas probably got closer to fruition than any of the other posited ideas in the 70s.

In Kelvin Trek, Khan was a completely different situation. Ceti Alpha wasn't involved?

Basing this new miniseries on TOS/TWOK will answer unanswered questions from Space Seed/TWOK such as... what, exactly? That CA VI went boom boom and laid waste CA V? The movie already told us what we needed to know. How does turning 2 seconds of perfect exposition-laden backdrop into a honking miniseries tell us something audiences needed to know but due to plot holes or oversights were left hanging for nearly four decades now? Dang, where's my Geritol and prune juice and those little goofy-shaped blue pills that wouldn't be out of placed if filmed during TOS's run?

Unless one can negate all that pill popping by seeing a few hours' worth of Chippendale dancers lounging about and oiling up their glistenin-- oh wait, TNG's "Justice" already tried that too... just not very well and a bunch of people jogging in oversized diapers just did not help...

Or a 3 hour tour spanning 3 days (or 3 seasons) involving the catastrophe and how long Khan has been stewing over hot coals to get back at Kirk. Seems a tall order... If Khan is the Skipper, who's Gilligan? And nobody is clamoring to see Mary Ann get killed by those nasty armadillo eel-spewin' things that, if they were the only life form left, what were they eating to survive apart from tasty brains from a small number of castaways? (and based on critics circa 1966, the television was doing that metaphorically to viewers of "Gilligan's Island" too all while ironically missing the point...)

Then finding someone with the caliber of Montalban to do some scene chewing but not go so over the top to be risible... Montalban, Plummer, et al, are a rare breed of actor with such charismatic finesse to pull off such a feat.

Okay, Meyer might actually be able to make it work, but who's the audience? Usually the target demographic is 18-49 year-olds. Not 40-123 year-olds since the oldest on record is 122, probably...

I wonder if the issue is the ability to sell a miniseries to streaming services. They obviously had trouble with Short Treks.

I wouldn't think that's an issue, the standard season for most streaming shows is 8-10 episodes, and I've seen others that were only 4-6.

I mean, in the very interview being discussed he straight up said the streaming market has changed so much since 2016 when he started working on it it was no longer viable for it in its current form:shrug:

Yet that detail does not seem to appear anywhere in the article which is linked in the opening post of this thread.

Have you a link to a different page, containing other information from TrekMovie's (supposedly exclusive) interview with Meyer?

I demand a three season run that culminates in Khan revealing how he knows Chekov. "I did his Mom once", said Khan before sauntering off into the Ceti-Alphan sunset.

That could be taken as a VERY good sign, since TMP is my favorite Star Trek movie! :D

I think it's dead, almost not a chance it happens to be the movie Abrams is rumored to be making or the one Kalinda Vazquez is rumored to be writing.

I think Abrams would probably let Meyer in, being he's the one Tarantino supposedly pitched to. Even if just as a writer and not to direct.

And I don't know if they specified who's supposed to be producing Kalinda's script, however putting her to work re-writing Meyer is NOT something I thing you would want. And I wouldn't put that past the Secret Hideout people at all.

I think they should do a shot-for-shot remake of ST VI using the Kelvinverse crew!...

    ... OK, I don't really want that.

Or, remake TMP with the Kelvin cast (chronologically, it about fits now) but have a completed script before starting the film. TMP is my fav Trek film but I often wonder if it could be done better if it wasn't so seat-of-the-pants and it's deficiencies could be fixed. Since this is the Kelvinverse, there's room for a surprise or two with the plot, it wouldn't be a predictable exact remake.

    Javier Bardem

I want to hear him reading Borges.

My spin would have been this:

We never hear his name used in this mini-series. The last scene alludes to an alternate universe...a bleed over from a successful Genesis test destroyed this particular CE V. Bardem stands over a grave with a photograph of someone who looks like Nehru. The camera pans back...and we see the wreck of an Eves version of Grissom.

“Captain Esteban, the Enterprise just arrived”

    “Pike...my old friend...like Khan...who I laid to rest...and Funes...I never forget a face.”

Javier and Anson do No Country on Ceti Alpha V...in the Garden of Forking Paths...there will be blood, pain and wonder. Ceti Aleph V...

In one valley, Anson is the villain...in another...the hero. Prisoner vibe.
