Spoilers "Superman & Lois" Season 1 spoiler discussion!

Snyder’s version of Superman has always been controversial and divisive, here and elsewhere. I have no desire to dislike any Superman portrayal, and have found much to enjoy in every other live-action iteration of the character. I’ve even found (a few) things to appreciate in Snyder’s movies, just not his Supes. But believe me, I’d much rather be happy than unhappy with every Superman portrayal, and there’s a part of me that envies those able to embrace Snyderman.

I still don’t understand why people have a issue with his Superman. I’m a big fan of the character as well and I have no issue with him.
I think the one version I’m not a fan of is the Miller version.

The guy was saying that it couldn’t be Luthor Jr because he is black. I’m saying that maybe their Luthor was also black.

Oh, I see. You meant, who's to say their Luthor wasn't black?

As I said a few days ago, that's certainly possible for an alternate reality, just as it's possible that a white Lex Luthor could've had a child with a black woman, or married a black woman who already had a child, or adopted a son.

Ah. My bad.

I like both Superman Returns and Man of Steel. Is that an unpopular opinion here?
I did like "Man of Steel". My particular issue with "Superman Returns" is that I like the original version of it AKA "Superman The Movie (1978)".

I realize "Superman Returns" was released 28 years after "Superman The Movie"; but still, My problem was "Superman Returns" was that I felt I'd seen it all before - and that was disappointing to me as I had hoped Briayn Singer what do more than just make a disappointing remake. (And yes I know the original didn't have the island of kryptonite - but overall the entire movie just felt like a retread; and while Kevin Spacey was okay as Lex Luthor, I still preferred Gene Hackman's version of Luthor over Kevin Spacey's in this instance.

I just like Brandon Routh's take on the character in the TV version of "Crisis on Infinite Earths"; and I was happy he was willing and that they gave him a chance to expand on said take on the character. And even though I do enjoy Jon Cryer's version of Lex Luthor; and I know story-wise why they did it, I was still disappointed when they had Lex Luthor replaced Brandon Routh/Superman as a paragon in the final episode of "Crisis on Infinite Earths".

Brandan Routh and Henry Cavill were both well cast as Superman; and both were short-changed by some terrible feature film writing/execution (imo).

I still don’t understand why people have a issue with his Superman..

Some people cling to a silly, camp counselor / Golden Age / early Silver Age version of the character and its poor adaptations, such as the George Reeves TV series, and forget that the character--before and after that time--has been written as serious, dealing with the kind of issues an alien would face in a world of people who were not going to act--out of the gates--like members of his fan club.

I quite liked this pilot. The acting, music and look of it was really nice. I know it's part of the Arrowverse but I'll probably treat it a bit like it's own thing. I like the call backs to Supes' history, like the Fleischer suit and rescuing the green car from Action Comics 1 but I was hoping for someone to do the "Scream" face that's also on that cover. The Kent farm here reminds me a lot of the one from "Superman: The Movie". On Earth-38 they reused the one from the "Smallville" show but I think it's cool getting a new location for the show. I liked the super chase and cutting to the kids fighting with that intense music playing and then Jordan unleashing his heat vision felt like something out of "Chronicle", probably one of the best scenes of heat vision and someone using their powers for the first time I've seen. Just instantly powerful and potentially deadly all in one shot. It reminds me a bit of "Man of Steel" in parts, I guess the cinematography and music but in that fight with Supes and Captain Luthor just the way Supes smashes through that building and messes up the bystanders. Another reason I like that chase is how we go from night to day in one scene and I don't know if I've really seen that in superhero shows but I remember thinking ages ago that's something Supes would have to deal with and how jarring and tiring that could potentially be. Without Lois or his support network he could easily turn into someone like Samaritan from "Astro City". It also reminded me of "Superman Returns" too with his getting shivved and falling to Earth. I don't mind the teen aspect but I was kinda hoping for preteens like Jon Kent from "Superman: Lois and Clark" because I liked that relationship and depiction. I hope we get a black Pete Ross like on "Smallville" who can just be Clark's Smallville confidante. Season 2 of "Smallville" made a good choice of letting Pete in on Clark's secret and having someone to confide in and I liked the chemistry between Sam Jones III and Tom Welling. Just have them be drinking buddies or he runs the local bar. Didn't like the voice of Captain Luthor, just sounded kinda soap opera-ish but maybe he'll grow on me.
I think it's the best depiction of Supes I've seen in a long time and definitely most unique (in live action). I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. I don't watch much TV but this year so far has had "WandaVision", "For All Mankind" and now this so I'm pretty stoked.

I liked it, Tyler plays a great superman, better than Routh and Cavil have.. but that maybe just scripts, like has been said. I would think if Routh was playing him in this series, it would be different, but better than Returns.

Jordan does have that "classic" looks to him, if he dresses better and gets a hair cut probably. Will be interesting to see an introverted Superman, Clark to me seems like he's good with people. Can't leave Jon out of it to long, see what powers he has.

What Lana's husband said was true, sort of "Flyover Country" statement. Sorry to say but most of Rural Kansas is right leaning, and looking forward/cringing to see what they say/do with that dynamic. Though they did pretty much say there all on xanex eating bon bons sitting on the couch after work this episode.. :barf2: Me growing up in Rural area, thats a bit of a BS generalization:thumbdown:.

Current tally: 26 mentions by Trek_God_1 of Superman being a camp counselor across 3 threads. Because I guess we just don't get it yet.

Innumerable posts in several threads by The Realist, where he constantly attacks Snyder, fans of his DC films, and refers to Cavill's Superman as "Snyderman".

I guess we need to read that every day, so it will stick.

Yes, it was a BS generalization, but one must consider the producers--and many in that industry who often scream about stereotyping, yet relish the chance to demean anyone who is not like / believes in something different than they do. I would expect to see more of that in this series, but here's hoping one of the points of the series is that Smallville is the preferable place to live (and does not need some radical "makeover"), instead of Metropolis.

Show needs a opening credits. I saw this online and it made me laugh.

Um, I don't think anyone has said this yet, but did anyone else recognize Martha's doctor? :)

I liked the show. Hoechlin seems young though to have 2 teenage sons after what seems like should be years as Superman before marrying Lois. But maybe Crisis...

One gripe about the pilot, why is the internet router in the barn and not the house? Why so far out of reach? Seems like poor writing to me.

The farm reminded me of the Reeve's movies vs. Smallville.

Routh makes an awesome Superman. I wasn't impressed with Superman Returns, but I think that was due to the writing. It seemed like much of the plot was reused. Rewatching it years later and seeing Routh as Superman on Crisis, I sure hope we get to see him as the Man of Steel again.

Ha! I also thought it was Gates but it isn’t
Superman looking young is intentional. They said back in Supergirl that Kryptonians age at a slower rate, which is a understatement since in the comics we know Superman is still around a million months from now

This show is getting a lot of high praise.
I'm not into Supergirl and most CW shows but I like 'The Flash' and love Brandon Routh Superman. Should I watch this?
