The Clone Wars and Rebels - A First Timer's Thread

If it keeps the expanded universe going, I’m ok with all of that. I just want to know where Ezra and Thrawn are.

I think the fact that Ahsoka walked away from the order is what makes her the greatest Jedi the order ever produced. So, yeah, it's confusing.

I feel the same way, and her lightsabers symbolize her purity, of really being a knight of the light side. I forgot to say earlier that there are a lot of female protagonists I love in the sci fi genre, which I think has reached legendary status, like Riply, Sarah Connor, Buffy, Cordelia before Angel season 4, Aeryn Sun. I think I would put Ahsoka right up there with them. I really do wish Ahsoka and Luke had met. Maybe they did off screen, but I really would love to know what kind of conversation that was.

I would like to think that they did at some point. I find it hard to believe that two of the most prominent light side Force users in the galaxy wouldn't have become aware of each other at some point, and if they were aware of each other then I find it just as hard to believe that they didn't track each other down and meet.

I don't know. Part of me feels like Ahsoka would choose to keep her distance. As we saw, she didn't trust herself to train a padawan with attachment issues, so she may not trust herself to be around another Skywalker.

The Jedi weren't wrong about shunning personal attachment. The Path of the Jedi is meant to be a selfless one, which invariably means a lonely one. As Obi-Wan said it's not they they're not allowed to have feelings, but it's how they choose to act on them that matters. In Ahsoka's case I can see a valid argument for the notion that she became well aware of Luke during the time of the OT, but deliberately stayed in the shadows because that is not where her destiny lies.

I mean I'd love to see an alternate universe story where she stayed with the Order, Anakin kills Obi-Wan on Mustafar and it's Ahsoka that ends up taking Padme and both of the twins into hiding...but that's not *this* Star Wars universe. ;)

As for Ahsoka's status; she's a Jedi in faith and deed, who is not a formal member of the Order. Basically, Star Wars *really* needs an equivalent word to "Ronin". No, not "Grey Jedi". That's an oxymoron.

One assumes "Jedi" actually has some literal meaning, presumably in the "Old Tongue" (yes, I know Lucas took it from "Jidaigeki", the term for Japanese period dramas). Let's assume for a moment that meaning/etymology is more or less the same as "Samurai"; to serve. So they just need another made up word that sounds like it's from the same language and means "wanderer" (which is more or less what "Ronin" actually means.)
A pity "Bendu" has already been taken, as it's one of the few made up words from Lucas's early drafts that actually sound OK, and would have fit nicely.
Hmm...maybe something that sounds like "Kurosawa", "Mifune" or "Uehara", in tribute to Star Wars' inspiration? Or maybe something derived from Sanksrit like "padawan" appears to have been? Hmm...I wonder how "Sky Walker" translates into Sanksrit. I mean, it's not a million miles away from wander/Ronin in terms of meaning, no? Could a a neat connection.
It kinda needs to be only one or two syllables at most though...and preferably not turn out to be an actual word that means something inappropriate....

ETA: OK, this got complicated really quickly. I did find a word in Sanksrit that actually translates as "Sky-Walker" (nabhaḥkrānta) though from context (and I stress I am by no means qualified to make this judgement) it seems to actually refer to a cloud that looks like a lion...so perhaps too literal?

I may be making this too difficult for myself. Perhaps stick to just mangling Japanese names and words until something sounds right; Eukai? Juro? Kira? Yojim?

I finally watched Spark of Rebellion for the first time this morning. It was pretty good, nowhere near as good as the later seasons, but still a nice introduction the characters, and Lothal. The only problem is, now I want to rewatch the rest of the series.

I don't see how that constitutes a problem?

I'm already working my way through the second and third seasons of both Heatland and The Runaways, and don't want to start anything else until I finish them. I already took breaks part way through both shows' second seasons, and I don't want to stop again until I finish the third.

I decided that a third show in my rotation won't hurt, so I'm gonna keep going with Rebels. Watched Droids in Distress this morning, and enjoyed it. It did a great job of building up the characters from what got with them in the pilot, and the stuff with R2 and C-3P0 was pretty fun. Didn't Vizago go on the be in more episodes?
Knowing where the show is going, the bit at the end was a nice set up for the bigger role the Ghost crew eventually end up playing in the rebellion.

I read the first couple issue of Kanan: The Last Padawan last night, and I enjoyed it a lot. It was interesting getting to see Kanan/Caleb's experiences right before, during, and after Order 66. I'm reading a Star Trek novel too, so I'm taking a break to read a couple chapters of that before I go back and finish up The Last Padawan.

Oh yeah fun fact if you didn't read the end credits at the end of the Rebels series finale, Chopper was voiced by Dave Filoni.

All previous episodes of the series just said 'As Himself'.

Dave also voiced one of the droids that helped Rex and Ahsoka escape in the series finale of Clone Wars (CH-33P), meant to be the same series of droid as Chopper, just unmodified.

There's also a C-Series droid in the Bad Batch trailer, so I wonder if Dave will also voice that one.
