Star Trek is like sex - even when it's bad, it's nice to have.
I've watched Nemesis many times because of the few good parts, although it's mostly bad. Also watched all the bonus stuff on the special edition DVD cause I'm a fan and wanna see everything about it. I watch BTTF3 when I watch 1 and 2 even though it's my least favorite of the trilogy. I even watch Alien 3 and 4, and Terminator 3-5, occasionally, although 1 and 2 of both are at least 10x better.
The only show I stopped watching was DS9 in the 1st season, and I regretted it. Took a while to catch up with it in the 90s when they were only on TV. I also still watch TNG S1 and 2 despite them being quite mediocre compared to what came after. Every episode or movie has something charming or interesting about it, even if the rest is boring, stupid, cheap, or whatever. TMP is incredibly boring, and has odd acting and bland costumes, but the VFX and music are great. TFF has such low quality, but the topic is interesting. WOK is far too theatrical for me, but the nebula stuff is exciting. DS9 S1 is also really boring, but the greatness that followed was more than enough to make up for it.
The only show I'm not interested in so far is Section 31, cause 31 was so much better as a hidden organization and the Emperor annoys me in every scene. But I might still watch it if the trailers and previews are interesting.

Everyone I've talked to directly likes new Star Trek. It's a vocal minority who hate it.

Well, I love tuning into Discovery each week when it hits Netflix: I look forward to each episode, despite some definitely being better or worse than others. Overall though, it hits beats more often than it misses - and it’s a show that is fairly rewarding, IMO.
I watch to enjoy it. I’m not actively looking for faults (if I had been, I’d have had big issues with just about all Trek). Life is too short to watch something you don’t like, which is why I bailed on both VOY and ENT when they aired. No big fuss, I just focused on shows I enjoyed more, like Farscape.
I have no problem with those who have genuine issues with the new shows, so long as they’re not part of the hater cult. You know, the saddos who spend their time watching Doomcock and Midnight’s Edge and who actively spread their gospel of NuTrek hate, bombarding places like IMDB with their party line. Losers, basically. Imagine getting to the end of your life and looking back. Would you really consider it a life well lived when you just devoted it to bitching about a TV series you hated? Nah.

As one of the old Grognards, I watch TOS & TAS ( and the occasional TNG episode) for fun.
But I find recent Trek to be too different to be entertaining.
For 20 years, prior to TNG, there was one "Star Trek" on TV, movies and (at the time) licensed "making of" books and novels.
Then TNG came along and deliberately rejected and wrote over most of what we had enjoyed for so long.
By all means enjoy your modern Trek. I will continue to enjoy my old Trek and probably never we will agree. But I don't intend to waste my time critising yours.

I've been talking mainly about Discovery in here, but I want to switch to Picard. I wasn't a huge TNG Fan. Or VOY Fan. And when I saw the first teaser for Picard it looked like a downer and I wasn't feeling it. Then they released the first proper trailer and it got my attention in a big way. In a way that I wouldn't have thought it would. Then I saw "Remembrance" and it really caught me off-guard. I figured I'd like it based on the trailers, but I underestimated to the degree. I was amazed at much I liked Picard. That managed to hold through for the entire season for me.
Like I said, I'm not a TNG Fan. So Picard hooked me on the strength of Picard alone.
They managed to make it feel like a follow-up to TNG but without making it feel like it was a revival. And the more I read about Michael Chabon, the more impressed I became. He really knows his stuff and puts a lot deep thought into it. It also helps that he's the person who wrote "Calypso", which I hold as my definitive Gold Standard for New Trek.

TNG is my favorite series, and I was bitterly disappointed by Picard.
You just never know what will strike your fancy.

I think Discovery S3 has been a step down from 1 and 2. It's still enjoyable and entertaining but something's missing for me. Do I start threads shitting all over it? Nope.
It's funny because TNG never grabbed me but I was inspired to attempt a rewatch because of Picard. It's been a struggle but I do see some of the good people like in it...slowly.
That said, I watch what I watch because I like it. I have given up trying to understand the hate watching phenomenon or even the insistence that posting criticisms somehow indicates liking a work. I lack that part of the brain to be like "Hmmm, if I like something I should post what I don't like about it." It's like if someone asked me if I liked TOS and I go on a tear about "Spock's Brain" at every talking point. Eventually, I'm going to come across as a bit angry.
The larger struggle is more simple-the Internet is a walking Resting Bitch Face (RBF). It lacks social cues and emotional context that lends weight that there is a genuine love of the material behind the criticism. It's just a wall of text.

I think TNG is really "hit or miss" to the extreme. It's one of the most "up and down" Star Trek shows ever...oscillating from "absolutely brilliant in every possible way" to "utter dross that I can't spend 3 min on" and just about everything in between.

I've just started a TNG rewatch. I'm up to the Last Outpost. So far nothing to write home about. Though Data's shiny make-up is reminding me of the DISCO Orions.

I watch Trek because I enjoy the franchise. I don't understand the concept of hate watching but in ancient times people used to turn up to watch crucifixions, beheadings and hangings, maybe its a similar mindset?

I watched The Passion of Christ and once was enough for me. Never need to see that again.
