It goes even deeper than that. I can appreciate that the heroes are the ultimate starship geeks by profession. Deciding that this particular ship is a scout should still be utterly beyond their means. Why wouldn't it be a tug instead, or a hospital ship, or a destroyer? You really can't tell from looks in any era, not even in the one the heroes are native to.
The other points of interest are all valid, though: neutronium structures, holographic walls and flying rain forests should pique the interest of the heroes, and should be easily observable.

That ship Owo calls a new constitution, The registry when enhanced *almost* looks like NCC-1864-M (or maybe 1884-M or even 1664-M, it's hard to tell the difference between the two centre numbers)

Apologies. That should have had a quote...I never said she should be?
Edit: Oh you're referring to Gebrig's post.
I never understand why people never understand why we can't talk about starships in a starship thread.I love how people who are tried, traumatized and stressed are expect to be completely precise in their language when trying to comprehend starships they are completely unfamiliar with.
I thought we were talking about characters and their interpretations of ships based upon familiar reference points?I never understand why people never understand why we can't talk about starships in a starship thread.
Do you really believe they put that much thought into the dialog that they're making nonsensical observations because of PTSD and other stress-related stimuli? If so, then you're likely incorrect on that assertion.
Because there may not have been a Reliant yet when Owo and Discovery left the 23rd Century? It looks like 1864-M to me too. Unless there was a disconnect between the script and the visuals (which there could very well be), I wonder why Owo didn’t say “Is that a new Reliant?”

But Discovery takes place 10 years before Kirk assumes command. We don't know if Reliant was commissioned after Discovery left or not.Well, we do know that the NCC-1864 was at least in service during TOS, as it appeared on the wall chart in “Court Martial” as one of the ships undergoing maintenance. So it’s not a stretch to say that it was already in service 8 years earlier.
