why didn’t they in tng? By tmp most people didn’t need glasses, and by tng geordi had an enhanced visor, that made him not only not blind, but see in different spectrums, you’re seriously asking “why aren’t they augmented?” Now?

I find that odd. It took the movie First Contact for Geordie to get artificial eyes, so why didn't they do that in the TV show if the technology was already there?

You seem very needlessly defensive about this. I specifically said it shouldn't take away from the quality of the series, there's nothing wrong with some consistent worldbuilding.

I like this forum, but sometimes you guys seem offended when anyone criticizes something, I still think the positives outweigh the negatives.

As for the TNG comparison, there's a huge difference between 100 and 1000. And Discovery >>> TNG Season 1
Because Discovery has to fight to be regarded as "Star Trek" and justify every decision.

the option was presented to Geordie in season 2, but the implants would have had less capabilities than the VISOR,so he refused.

By First Contact either the implants matched those capabilities or Geordie reconsidered.

OK that's fine. I think his implants even gave him more capabilities that the visor couldn't. Did he still have them in Nemesis?

Yeah, he still had the ocular implants in NEM and likely would now as well if he appeared in PIC, unless he'd had an optical restoration procedure done with, say, cloned optic nerve tissue or new biological eyes that could replace his implants and give him normal eyesight once again.

I'm surprised even in TNG post nemesis they couldn't clone him new eyes

I think it was important to continue to remind the audience that Geordi is, in fact, a blind man. Having cloned eyes or implants that look like real eyes would take away from that considerably.

It’s another example where realism rightfully takes a back seat in Trek.

+1

I honestly can’t believe people are still perplexed by / bitching about this fact 3 years later. SMG is the star of the fucking show. Michael Burnham is the main character. There isn’t anything else to it. It’s not going to change. It’s borderline obtuse for people to be flummoxed by it this at this point.

I'm only bitching in situations like we saw in this episode. What connection did she have to the Barzan doctor? How is she relating to him? Just because she can be blunt with him? You can have her be the star, but don't have stupid writing.

Unless LeVar Burton demands it I don't think we'll see Geordi with functioning biological eyes if he appears in a future episode of PIC.

Nah. It’s stupid complaining. Not stupid writing.

Wow. You seem like a super nice person.

Why is there a difference between my calling complaints out for being “stupid” and you calling the writing out for being “stupid?”

It’s a ridiculous complaint in the context of this franchise. The entire franchise is BUILT UPON contrivances to get the lead hero or ship into the action. It’s literally the calling card of the franchise. If it comes across as “stupid,” I question how anyone with such an opinion made it as a fan.

And I am super nice. Just ask my mom.

32nd century holograms have a harmonic rate, whatever that is, of <10 Hz. :guffaw:

It’s crazy. It would be like complaining “That show 24 would be better if it wasn’t for Kiefer Sutherland and that Jack Bauer character always doing everything”
And that James Bond guy who has to dominate every single James Bond movie!

I'd love to go back to 1987. The music was better, the movies were better... and I could've seen how people reacted to TNG when it jumped a century ahead. It too didn't represent 100 more years' worth of advancement.
I'd love to experience it for the first time, and with others who also see it for the first time. The advancement was in the sleek, flat consoles and more comfortable interior (which was compared to a hotel).

I think he once mentioned he wouldn't wanna lose all the additional things he can see with his VISOR, but I can't find the reference right now

Well, he's a person who is actually here and can be discouraged from making further replies if people start telling him his critiques of the show are stupid, so there's that.

He already said in his original (very fair and in-depth) review that he's a fan and has enjoyed this season and thinks the writing in general has improved (despite still having some critiques), so why don't we just take his word at it?

It was less impressive..I was always confused by the preference from bridge to bridge. I guess I see wanting more comfort but beige doesn't inspire comfort for me.
