Spoilers Stargirl - Season One Discussion Thread

If this was the season finale with a budget, imagine what the season 2 finale will be like without a budget.

I was thinking as I was watching it that the CGI budget for the episode was probably as much as they get to spend on an entire season of 'Legends of Tomorrow'.

So, by my count, the Gambler and Solomon Grundy are still on the loose, and we have two, maybe three orphaned Injustice Society kids to pick up where their parents left off: The Dragon's King daughter, the Maestro's son (aka "Tuba Turd"), and, refresh my memory, which of the bad guys had the sensitive, artistic son Courtney kinda liked?

Meanwhile, the lifelong DC fan in me nerded out over: The Shade! Eclipso! Maybe the other Seven Soldiers of Victory? The minute Mean Girl found that black diamond I was all, "Wait? A black diamond? Does that mean . . . yes, Eclipso!"

And speaking of Easter eggs, I loved that that movie posters outside the town theater were all advertising films based on obscure DC properties: The Haunted Tank! The Unknown Soldier! Prez! And one more I couldn't make out . . . .

And, yes, I'm still hoping for at least a flashback featuring Merry, Girl of a Thousand Gimmicks.

I think that was Icicle's kid.

G.I. Robot, IIRC.

I find references to The Haunted Tank inappropriate in these times, though, because that was a series that glorified a Confederate general who fought for slavery as a heroic figure. I'd much rather see that one quietly buried.

Let's assume that's a modern reboot that dropped the Confederate angle. I suspect they were just looking for cool old titles that would make a good mock movie posters. (Wonder how they missed "Creature Commandoes"?)

And that was Icicle's kid Courtney kinda, sorta liked? Okay, that's going to be awkward.

I was kinda surprised that we didn't get a tag scene reminding us of Maestro's magic fiddle, but I guess they had a lot of balls to juggle this ep.

Wasn't he called the Fiddler? Or did they rename him in the show?

According to the show, there was a Fiddler, back in the day, but his fiddle eventually fell into the hands of a woman who called herself the Maestro. I believe she was supposed to be the original Fiddler's wife or something.

This was actually a plot point, with Pat Dugan being thrown off by the fact that the new "Fiddler" was a woman.

Had no idea she had her own villain name.

Between The Shade and Eclipso, which one is more likely to have the ability to make the Courtney's staff and Pat's robot inactive for 9-10 episodes?

Oh Boy.. for once i feel how an outsider must feel when people go into detail about their favorite pasttimes

I'm a Marvel man so none of the excitement and name drops here mean anything to me because i simply don't know the characters, their stories and what has happened with/to them in the comics.

I don't have the time nor actual desire to do research so when season 2 comes along it'll be once again completely new territory for me, missing 50% or more of the inside jokes (like the movie posters mentioned above) - i'll enjoy this superhero show for what it is.

That's the experience of the vast majority of viewers for any adaptation, and it's the way they're supposed to work. The Easter eggs and in-jokes are just bonuses, not essentials.

Although I'll admit I'm susceptible to in-joke-itis myself. In the tag scene where Cindy was rummaging through the storage area and found Eclipso's crystal, when she was in the shadows and it wasn't yet clear who she was, I spotted what I thought was a fishnet pattern on her leggings and I thought excitedly, "Is that Zatanna?" I guess it was supposed to be more of a dragon-scale pattern or something.

And of course, the moment where she finds Eclipso's diamond is a direct homage to the cover of the first issue of "Eclipso - The Darkness Within" which infamously had a plastic diamond stuck to the cover thereby making it impossible to get a mint copy (for those who cared about that sort of thing).

Yeah i know - for Marvel i'm more of an "expert" so caught much more references and inside jokes than the general audience when it comes to the MCU and the TV/Netflix shows - i like it when they throw in something extra for the fans or give them a small heads up for possible upcoming storylines.

Message boards like this live on stuff like this :D

I was also kind of hoping for Zatanna. It will be interesting to see the new heroes as well as the villains for next year, but I'm just hoping CW doesn't "CW" the show. This show was terrific this season, and it was a nice contrast to the other CW shows.

You're forgetting Sportsmaster and Tigress daughter Artimus (sp), she was the high school quarterback whose parents murdered the coach when he benched her. So that's four.

You're right! I forgot about her!

So it dawns on me that the school is going to need a new principal, and Courtney's mom is probably going to need a new job. And Pat is probably going to need to find a new gym. :)
