It's okay if you don't like Lower Decks, it's not targeting Star Trek's main audience.

One thing I think the show does well is the comic beat of the show and the speedy way they deliver their lines. And the way they set up the main characters between the guy who's wholly impressed by all the things we've always loved about Star Trek and the woman who wants no part of it.

It is though.

You can be a fan, but how can you call someone a Trekkie if they refuse to watch some of it? That person could be a fan of the franchise, but I wouldn’t say they’re hardcore or anything if they refuse to watch parts of it based solely on a 1 or 2 minute trailer.

Anyway, it’s neither here nor there and I’m not going to spend several posts arguing about it. I like Jammers site but them not reviewing parts of the franchise because reasons is a little annoying. But they have that right, and I have the right to criticize them for it.
I stopped watching VOY after the fifth season and I skipped out on ENT. I didn't like them, so I stopped watching. Because I did that, now I'm in a position where I can tell people I think they should stop watching DSC and PIC or even LD if they don't like them, and not feel like I'm a hypocrite.

Eventually, I did watch late-VOY and ENT, but not until much, much later. Long after they were over. When I could binge them quickly so as to not drag it out.

Hate-watching is the worst thing to do. If you think you "have to watch it all" just because you're a fan, you're watching for all the wrong reasons. Watch something because you enjoy it, not because you feel an obligation or a commitment. You can walk away and still come back later. This isn't the Mafia.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that Jammer ever reviewed The Animated Series episodes. He's of the old school opinion (enforced by the Okuda Encyclopedia) that TAS is something other than Star Trek, and Lower Decks, as an animated series itself, is a continuation of that.

That's fine. It's a valid opinion. As is the people who think Discovery doesn't meld with TOS or Picard isn't the fate of the TNG era. To each their own. IDIC.

I don't share that opinion. My fandom came as a child from the Okuda works, but it largely evolved with my time on Memory Alpha, which accepted TAS from the getgo and was the primary driving force in its ultimate acceptance by Paramount and most fans today.

A 6 from me.

It was alright. (At least none of the characters are your typical TNG-era 100% emotionally well adjusted style mannequins - even the senior staff). Everybody is an actual relatable human being <--- Which is a unique take on the Star Trek TNG era, and a refreshing one for me.

Some small chuckles here and there; but IMO - from someone who worked on "Rick & Morty" I was hoping they'd take it a bit farther into parody, but no, I suppose they DO want to somewhat fit it into the actual TNG era, which for me is a bit disappointing.

Overall, it is pretty much what I originally expected "The Orville" to be like before I actually watched that show. IMO "Lower Decks" is more entertaining and actually occasionally funny compared to "The Orville" (YMMV).

Episode 1 piqued my interest enough that I'll keep watching.
I really appreciate this description and why I don't care TNG.

Indeed it is beaucoup. It was used in French-Indochina aka Vietnam and picked up by GIs as buku.
Cheers. I had never come across the "buku" version of it before. Indeed, to my eyes buku shouldn't be pronounced the same way as beaucoup, (boo-koo vs bow-koo) but that of course depends on where you're from. :)

It wasn't boring but not super funny either. I think it can turn into some solid fun. It's a little to cartoony for me to see it as part of the canon because I could not buy into characters behaving like they did if they had been in any of the live action shows but that's okay with me if the show is good. If anything it kind of opens things up. If they want Kirk to show up or do a planet wear we find out ghosts are real that would be fine by me if it's fun to watch.

I really enjoyed that it wasn't the end of the world/humanity/Federation/universe. Just a day in the life of a starship crew.

It's an expression that is not uncommon vernacular in parts of Louisiana and Mississippi as well, but as the original french/creole beaucoup

"Hot pursuit" from "Arena" says hi. They may be in the future, but it's 21st century audiences that watch and make or break shows.

A holographic version of Sisko in an episode of DS9 refers to Bashir as being 'in irons', which is slang for being hand (or leg) cuffed. Slang that most likely dates back to when those things were made from actual iron.

My daughter (who also just recently started playing STO) loves it and my wife audibly chuckled a few times (and she doesn't get into Trek at all). I had to explain a few of the more obscure references to them, but overall, I'd call it a win, FWIW.
This might be problem for me. I´m not uber-nerd in practically anything. so I will miss a lot, unfortunately. I guess Mariner is a representative of such fans.
