I thought it was pretty funny, but I'm not sure why they are talking with 21st century lingo?

From what I can tell that's how they talk and behave across all of the current crop/Kurtzman Trek series because he apparently thinks people will talk the exact same way we do today 300 years in to the future so all the characters have to talk and act like 21st Century Millennials.

Well, when you can figure out how people will talk in 300 years, you should go write a series that takes place then.

Well, I said I wanted to laugh several times. No dice, I'm afraid... although, I did smile several times. Had it's cutesy moments here and there.

Thought it might have had more of an edge a la Rick and Morty (I wasn't expecting the same caliber writing-wise). Overall though, far from great. But, it wasn't that bad that I won't check out the next couple of episodes. About what I expected, really.

They won't be behaving exactly as we do today. Somehow the previous Trek series has managed to give us characters who behaved in a manner that made sense to their environment without them standing out as being characters written in the mid/late-20th cenutry.

My wife liked it as well, however maybe its my age, my upbringing, my preference, my lifestyle or whatever, but I did give it a watch before I gave my opinion.
I did not knock it without watching it, but I thought it was shit, the sort of low level rubbish for people with short attention span, you had one character acting like some spaz on pcp, and far over the top again maybe its my age but childish cartoons are not my thing, aint been since I became an actual adult.

As much slating as Picard and discovery got, they at least had some semblance of merit due to the weight of the actors, but this thing was embarrassing and like so many things today just another case of some one trying to exploit the franchise.
You dont seen to have much respect for your wifes brain or tastes.
Well I suppose she did pick you

Pretty close to where I am. I am a tad disappointed but remain hopeful. Who knows what future eps may bring. :)

I'm not surprised. I'd be surprised if he sticks it out for the entirety of DSC and PIC. He's slowly checking out.

His loss, honestly.

I don’t see how someone can stick it out through the likes of The Way to Eden and Spock’s Brain and sooo many other dreadful episodes to give up over something so minor as an animated comedy Trek. Simply because it isn’t live action. I would think any true Trekkie would at least give it a chance and not pre-judge based on one trailer (since he made that announcement before the series aired).

I found the first episode to be just okay, but I’m going to stick around and see how the rest of the series goes. It wasn’t bad by any means, and was light years better than many episodes throughout the franchise.

But if he’s dropping out after this long then I question his place in the fandom.

any true Trekkie
I question his place in the fandom
That's just silly, honestly. It's a fucking TV show, it's not a religion or a way of life. No-one has to give a TV show “a chance”. If Jammer decides not to watch it it's his personal business, there's no obligation for someone who liked previous versions of Trek to watch it. I swear, this whole “true Trekkie” business is why I hate the fandom sometimes. And what's anyone's “place in the fandom” even supposed to mean?

I think it has to do more with his justification for not reviewing it. And he’s put himself out there so he’s under more scrutiny than the average fan.

And yea, it does make me question ones fandom. You can enjoy a series or two or five, but you only cement your place as a Trekkie if you watch all the shows and films. If you don’t, you’re getting closer to casual viewer or former Trekkie.

His justification? What do you mean? It basically just doesn't look interesting enough to him to watch it. That's it. And what's wrong with that? Everyone's going to have to decide this for themselves. So you think he's somehow obliged to spent time watching and reviewing the show, because … ? Well, why exactly? Because he reviewed previous versions of Trek? Again, this is just plain silly.

“You only cement your place as a Trekkie if you watch all the shows and films” — this got to be the most nonsensical sentence I've read all week. Basically the definition of gatekeeping.

I feel I should elaborate here, it wasn't really meant to denigrate younger fans, but I wrote it really quickly on the fly...

So what I meant was I know that there are generations raised on Simpsons, and the current crop of prime time cartoons in the US, and I've never watched any of those, so the style and tone are not something I'm really used to. The handful of times I've seen any moments from kids cartoons because of relatives they have that frenetic style. So I'm gathering talking really fast and not taking a breather is par for the course.

I also understand they only have 26 minutes to establish a story.

So I did Rewatch the episode with my cartoon-hating wife, and at one point I accidently pressed the wrong button 3/4 through and she complained...so she was actually getting into the show. I also chuckled a few times...those are good signs.

My impression is the voice actors are pretty engaging, despite some of the characters being over the top. There's that layer of appeal there.

The second viewing was better, but I'm sticking with 6/10 as the rating. I will keep watching it and see if it grows on me or the stories are better.

I think this show will probably succeed in bringing some younger fans in to the fold, which I believe was the goal.

Loved the backgrounds, but the humor was just OK and it was a bit too frenetic...Is that how teens are these days?

There were a lot of TNG layers in there, not just references, which is nice to see. I liked the music.

Overall I'd have to see more. As of now I'm giving it a 6/10.

One can choose not to watch a series or not and still be a fan. Suggesting someone isn't a Trekkie unless they've watched all of the series is just as ludicrous as saying one is a Trekkie if they only watch certain episodes, movies and series. Its called gatekeeping. And you're not going to find a lot of support here for that.

None of these distinctions are really that important...Casual fan, trekkie, etc. Fandom is always made up by those and really doesn't carry any extra weight if you saw more or saw them sooner by an accident of birth.
