The first trailer dropped today and man does it deliver!

I'll spoilercode this once because i don't want to spoil a major reveal in the trailer

Michael impersonates Lucifer! Who saw that coming? And boy do the fights look good so excited about the Lucifer/Michael fight and we'll see if that's near the season finale or somewhere in between.

Netflix will drop the new season August 21st. See you then!

I haven't watched Season 4 and maybe 3, not sure, but I was surprised at how much was revealed in that trailer just as a very casual viewer.

I hope there will be much more to this and maybe some of the things are misleading too (kind of like many Marvel movie trailers). Whatever actually happens i hope this season knocks it out of the park - just a bit sad they only drop half the season in August.

The big new character reveal was a surprise. Definitely very curious to see how all of that is going to play out.
I'm also curious how Dennis Haysbert as God is going to finally come into play. I'm assuming something pretty big must happen to finally get Him personally involved.

Wow I wish that twist hadn't been spoiled in the trailer.

Yeah, that would have been a hell of a shocker if they hadn't revealed it.
I've often wondered how they decide what to reveal and not to reveal in the trailers.

Yeah, I don't buy it either. There have been several times I've either purposefully gone looking for spoilers, and then really wished I hadn't since it completely destroyed the moment when I saw the movie.

In past seasons God was apparently fine with Lucifer and Amenadiel duking it out, he even didn't intervene when Lucifer killed Uriel but i guess Lucifer and Michael going at it may be enough to put him into action.

One reason may also be that Lucifer again left Hell (i'm so curious how that will play out) so the Boss may take matters into his own hands now.

Ages ago someone spoiled Dumbledore's death in book 6, a friend of mine went ballistic at the guy for spoilering this so casually. It happened online in a chatroom but if she had seen him in person it would have been an epic fight.

I'm very cautious when it comes to spoilers, i always ask people if they want to be spoiled and if i post online i make sure that the rules allow spoilers or that the thread is marked with a spoiler warning (liked i did with this one).

The purpose of trailers is to get people interested in a story and make them want to see it. You have to reveal some of the things that make it exciting or tense in order to get them invested. They need to know what the crisis is. So revealing information that defines the crisis is good. That's not a spoiler, because it doesn't ruin the experience the creators want you to have. It's a teaser, because it's how the creators get you interested in seeing more. Revealing information about how the crisis is resolved is a spoiler.

    In this case,
the reveal about Michael probably comes in the first episode of the season. After all, you can't do too much of a season without the title character appearing, even if the lead actor's still there in a different role. So it's a "first act" revelation, part of setting up the arc for the season. Revealing it is just establishing the stakes. There are bound to be more and bigger revelations to come later.

The problem with modern spoilerphobia is that it mistakenly presumes that the only emotion that matters in fiction is surprise. That's not true. It's possible to enjoy a story even when you know what's coming. That's why we love to revisit our favorite stories where we already know the endings. That's why we enjoy episodic stories where we know the heroes will win every time. That's why, sometimes, we can see in advance exactly how a story will end but still enjoy seeing it get there. Fiction isn't just about shock value. Often it's about the fulfillment of expectations, not their subversion. Both are worthwhile emotions to evoke. Just because some stories rely memorably on surprise doesn't make that the one and only thing that defines the value of a story.

I mean, it's Lucifer. It's one of the most formulaic shows on TV. There's always a murder that coincidentally has some on-the-nose relevance to Lucifer's current personal preoccupation, he'll always overreact to it in some way in the clueless belief that it will provide a simple fix to his problems, and he'll always work out his personal issue and catch the killer by the end of the hour. It's not like this is a show that relies solely on the unexpected.

I suspect mucking about with Chloe, his little miracle, might be a mover to the Big Guy as well. I don't think it's ever been tested but it would be amusing if it turned out she could hurt other angels, too.

I'll bet that was a revelation to everyone here.

Some poor peasants just like a surprise.

    Gee, thanks.

I guess we'll find out when Lucifer gives Michael a high five to the face while Chloe is nearby

Yes, I am very much aware of all of this and could have done with the condescending lecture, thanks. It might be hard for you to comprehend, but I'm not a complete fucking moron.
All I meant was that this felt like something that would have been a fun surprise if they hadn't revealed it.

And I tried to explain why they wanted to reveal it. Not everything is supposed to be a surprise. Some things are just part of the setup. It's not like they made a mistake. They wanted us to know. I'm sure there are plenty of other surprises to follow.

Yeah, I get why they did it, I just think it would have been more fun if they didn't.

I'm a bit undecided - on the one hand it was an awesome spoiler and i really hope there's much more to the season that we don't get to see in the trailer.

On the other hand it would have been also cool if they just included the scene where Lucifer returns with the "Hello bad guys!" line.. that mischieveous smile of his is just ace ( we all know he would return somehow, that wouldn't even be considered a spoiler) :)

Aaaand it's go time - the first 8 episodes of season 5 have been released.

From now on for a while i'll spoilercode it

Episode 1 - Pretty standard Fallout Episode for a season starter. Everybody is dealing with the fallout from the season 4 finale. Not one of the best episodes but season starters rarely are.

    On to episode 2.

I'd made a note that it was, but then forgot and was thinking first week of September. I'll probably start on it tomorrow.
